Quoting Zubaz, reply 13 Nobody beats me on Sins, thoughHeh . . beat you at galciv too (but not by much) Although to be fair, Zubaz, you SD employees can increment Karma by quite a bit. Us non-SD folk can only increase it for others by +1
I don't think that's accurate -- I don't thikn any of my 4 Karma givers were SD people, and I have 12 -- 3 each.

How do you know thats the size of the map? Maybe that's just the amount of it they were using :D
Braging rights are always cool!
Trailer? I missed the trailer? Edit: Meh, I wants more!
Yeah, I couldn't get it to flag anything as stupid either.
So yeah, whom else can you trust in the games industry?
I can trust EA and Atari -- to royally screw me over every chance they get! The question is, who else can you trust to do right by the gamer?
a 64-bit version can't take advantage of RAM that people don't have
Not quite accurate. Since 64 bit OS's allow you to exceed the 2GB program size limit, you could make use of virtual memory -- but it'd run as slow as hell unless most of what's in virtual memory isn't accessed a lot. I add the emphasis because I've seen / heard of cases where games decide they need memory space, but never really use it.
Ah, perhaps I have missed sth... How are you being prevented to run it at home? You download stuff at work, thus installing it. Then you go home and start the game...? You will need Impulse only for downloading, not for anythin else (especially not for playing the game... You CAN play it offline!). But perhaps I missunderstood you...
OK, the problem here is those of us who don't have home internet access (I used to be in that camp!) but do have public[
SD is one of two gaming companies I know of in the industry which as a matter of policy actively goes out of its way to actually take care of its customers way beyond the point of sale. I say that speaking as customer of SD since it was first started well over a decade ago.
Who's the other?
I'm just not sure that I'm ready for a world where I can trust PC game publishers to do right by their customers. It's really, really nice to be proven wrong sometime
hmmm nevermind i saw the charge and now its gone...
It (probably) wasn't a charge, it was a hold. Some banks put the funds 'on hold' when SD checks to make sure the credit card is valid.
looking glasses are something that I think would be very tricky in a nonindustrial magic-based world, and magical alternatives would be much more likely, which I thought I covered (in the last sentence as an aside, mind if I fix that?
Tricky and difficult, yes. Impossible, no. All you really need are lenses, which were produced as early as the 13th century.
-If I were to purchase a copy of Elemental for my 32-bit WinXP computer, would I be charged for a new license or an upgrade fee in the future if I get a 64-bit system and want to re-download and keep playing?
From past experiance, you can trust SD to do right by you. And from what I've heard, the game purchase includes both 32 and 64 bit additions, you don't have to choose the right version.
Yeah, having 'shared' forums gets confusing sometimes. The way the direct-linking 'translates' so I'm still looking at Elemental forums while I'ma ctually viewing a Sins thread -- and the resulting 'stripping' of forum info -- is highly confusing at times.
https://forums.elementalgame.com/329701 I think this just might be a case of wierdness in the SD foum system. I'm seeing it through elementals forum, but it's not here!
18000 Petabytes... I know, I know, the wisdom of "no one will ever need more than 640k" is probably infecting me... but honestly, can the human brain deal with a game complex and big enough to use even 1000 petabytes? I mean, that is a *LOT*
In all likelyhood, that data will get sucked away to things we don't actually make use off -- remembering where every single peasant
Couldn't he just respond to that post himself to get a bump? Just type "BUMP" and post. I'm at a losss as to what that other post is asking anyway.
I think it's a post for Sins... which makes it odd showing up in the elementals forum O.o
If you want help, you should probably put this in the forum for the game you're wanting to mod. (I'm goign to guess Sins...?)
2^64=around 18000 petabytes... Hehe, now THATS a map!
Just as computers 5 years ago couldn't approach the 4GB limit, computers these days won't come closer to touching the 64 bit memory limit -- sorry!
2) I would like some interdependence among the branches of the tech tree.
I dunno... having multiple seperating 'branches' for various approaches you can take sounds fun. Want to be an uber-magical kingdom? Sure! Want to have the best economy around? Sure! Want to have the best military forces on the globe? Sure! Want all three? Nuh-uh, gotta pick one.
I need to be a beta tester
Screw beta, give me the keys to the alpha-testing machine! Mwa ha ha ha ha!
As long as I don't have to make pink space ponies jokes I'm game.
Aaah, but they're so much fun!
Don't sweat, I give it three days until Ron makes them or maybe annatar. There will be pink space ponies, it's just up to us to block them.
Not me. Puh-lease. I'll do the flying office buildings, though!
5. restrict technology development to a limited set for each mission, removing restrictions with each mission - alternate: base restriction on total tech "points" to allow player some tradeoff choices on what they research
I like this version the most -- especially the alternative. Set a 'cap' for power -- just remember to let players be safe if they're under that cap!
Everyone take note, nothing I can teach you here will matter unless you also understand that one sentence right there.
I prefer: There are no dangerous weapons, there are only dangerous people.
That gave me an idea. Let me explain:
I like the whole idea of rank/reach; brilliant idea. Adding in secondary weapons is also brilliant, if possible.
Way too soon for GalCiv III. Maybe, *maybe*, the game after Elemental -- but I'd bet the game after that, at the earliest. Good news is I'd expect Society to come in there somewhere too. Five years... 1. Demi 2. Elemental 3. ? (Society probably comes here...) 4. ? (or here....) 5. ? (Maybe GC3, if you're lucky) We're missing a SD title!
