64 bit -- more memory, and Elemental is actually going to take advantage of the extra memory to have REALLY REALLY huge maps.
One thing I want to mention: Elemental has far more than 2 factions to play as. There are only two RACES (just as Civilization only has one race -- humans) but each of those two races are split into several distinct and unique factions with their own history and back story and tech tree.
KEWL! You trying to give me another joygasm?
Eh, cartoony can be bad if taken too far -- but the way cartoons simplify / break down into the most critical elements a given image set makes them *very* clear, and this is a good thing.
Isn't that to the last post in the thread?
From past experiance, they'll even bombard your e-mail account with newsletters (this is a good thing, btw, don't stop!)
That sounds like fun to me :D And I think they've already mentioned an 'abundance' of dungeons... and the ability of adventerurs to waken / tick off their inhabitents, sending them on a rampage across the countryside.
"Needfire"?
Seriously, this could be Stardock's "breakout" title- I'm hoping SD is going to bet the marketing farm on this.
If GalCiv didn't do that for TBS, this game ain't too likely to do much more! (AKA: they already 'broke out' in TBS games, which are a niche game, alas). On top of that, we have Sins (RTS/4X hybrid) which sold like crazy, and Demigod which is very much a mainstream game which, done to SD quality, will [i
Sounds like a 'deliberately debalancing' late game spell to me!
Why do I feel like I just got a joke that's been right in front of my nose for... about 5 years now? So long as we don't have any planets in GalCiv that are named "Jimmy the Hand", I think we'll be OK.
Just don't give them any ideas for hero names -- I'd rather not have Pug the Wizard helping Arutha the Swordsman ravage my lands, while Jimmy the Hand steals all my precious artifacts! :D</p
What I really miss is when a thread would 'jump' to the new unread posts, rather than making you sort through the entire thread to find the right point.
With every additional spec of info, I face yet another joygasm. I can't take too many of those, guys! I want teh beta... now now now now now! :D
Count me all the way in! /facepalms You should know better than to say things like that.
Eets isn't here... please tell me eets isn't here... please!
Yes. One of the key game mechanics of Elemental is how cities are built. In Elemental, when a city grows, it gains a new tile which can be placed where the player wants it to go (as long as it's adjacent to an existing tile). So cities are a multi-tile affair in the game. Now, how you choose to build up your city heavily determines how defensible or productive, or rich it is. Cities are only conquered when the keep tile is taken which could be in the utter center of the city or c
Have you guys seen the comments about the graphics on the various forums? Many people are whining about the graphics style already.
You make it sound like I'd care about what others are saying (well, except to argue with them when they're wrong, agree with 'em when they're right). I'm sure Annatar or Eets (whichever is floating around in here) will be happy to correct you on that assumptio
Personally, I'm really hoping for 'rpg-like' hero-controls -- leveling, equipment, etc etc -- to go right next to my large-scale TBS fun. Yes and yes.
Excuse me while I go do a joygasm! (Combining that with my standard "built the uber empire" play style is just... wow. Wow.)
For those who hesitate to pre-order it, i should remain them that there is a discount coupon code with the Stardock 2008 Report.
There was? Woops! Too late now :(
Disease against resistance was because I specifically thought of mounted characters. It would make sense for them to have high endurance, the ability to fight longer than someone unmounted, but why would they resist a disease better?
Actually, their endurance should be lower -- the horse is going to get very tired, very quick.
I haven't seen a lot of the artwork, but I'm really looking forward to seeing it 'in motion' -- it looks really good, in a non-cluttered sort of way.
I'd imagine a lot of it has to be before the game ends -- it'd be hard to add a new custom race in the middle of the game! Unless it happens as a random event...
HAWT! I want Klackons!
Well we are called Stardock after all.
ROFLCOPTER -- I completely missed that!
You guys don't get rid of me that easily... Count me all the way in!
There are things that can be done in a fantasy setting ('hero' units, for example) that just can't be done in a Sci-Fi setting. Personally, I'm really hoping for 'rpg-like' hero-controls -- leveling, equipment, etc etc -- to go right next to my large-scale TBS fun.
I can hardly wait for the beta to get to my grubby little hands! This is looking better and better.
