why wait till september sheesh..
Because the game isn't even far enough along to be called alpha / beta yet? :P Edit: There was a quote from soemone the other day about how if they spend 4 years on this game, 3 and a half years of that time will be the time spent buildling the technology; only 6 months would be actually turning that technology into a game. Scarily, I believe that because it matches perfectly with what I'm seeing in my c

I am curious about the level of 'macro controls' available. There is nothing more annoying than having to micro a battle simply because the AI doesn't know how to use the 'unbeatable' units I've provided it with properly, or having to go through and set every single stupid little variable on a city by hand... times however many cities I have.
If it rains, I'll be going home sooner which means the alpha will likely come out a bit sooner. If it's nice,

Reply to Open Beta? in War of Magic

Quickie version: When you input the information, SD sends a request to the card company (whoever that is) asking "can this card be charged such - and - such ammount?" The card company then puts a hold on the funds, expecting the company on the other end to go ahead with the transaction (which SD does not do until the beta is released). Because SD never asks for the money, it gets hold a pre-set amount of time (depending on the card company's policies) before bein
Meanwhile, someone else makes a game with no tactical combat that does horribly gay shit, like killing high level units off at 99% odds, and everything is right with the world.
While poorly phrased, I think that's one of the reasons I like tactical combat as well. Not only does it make it very unlikely for that situation to happen (I've seen it happen in Civ4, and I'm always ticked) but a human player can 'see' it coming and go 'I'm getting out o

My biggest reason for wanting tactical battles is the possibility of synergistic powers -- stats are very flat and cold. You can take stats all you want, but something like MoO2's Energy Absorber, Xeno Armor, DamperField, Repair system, and cybernetic race trait has an effect completely out of line with their 'stats' because of the way they synergistically interreact. And I like that idea!
Interesting. I've had an almost-opposite reaction to the Dev Journals area. It seems equally vulnerable to loop-us ad naseum discussions with the added ick factor of awkward fanboigirl patter.
I feel the beauty of this system comes from the non-necessity of a complex UI: your actions on the main map (building placement, road construction, etc) will drive the distribution of goods. That's not to say we won't allow micromanagement types to tweak numbers themselves, but I see the automation to be pretty straight forward (and thus capable of doing a great job on its own)
What aobut someone like me, who places roads everywhere for military purposes

I should have just said TL;DR to this darned thread... my head hurts now! That said, I'm generally in favor of model 1, so long as the AI / background mechanics don't place unecesarry micro requirements on the player. (AKA: get it right!) Personally, I'd use a need draw approach -- if a city suddenly needs swords, your empires supply of swords is going to be drawn to it (proportional, overall, to your entire empire's 'need' of that reso
