Last Thursday I was able to finally grab the Windows 7 RTM off of MSDN and get it installed without any issues.
Lucky SOB! I soooo want that!
A player masses troops on the AI border. What should the AI do? Now, your first (reasonable) reaction is "build a huge army! Prepare to defend!" and thats what many of us would do, but its going to break the AI quickly. Why?
You forgot the major 'those forces are there to hide them from the guy I'm really launching them against' I've run into in GalCiv2 a few times... Or, also from GalCiv2, is the AI's occasional reading of my nodal defensive fleets (
"Eye candy" is not about selling the game but about making the game far more enjoyable.
I'm sorry, but no. A moderate degree of graphics are necessary for a good game, yes. But photo-realistic graphics are neither called for, desired, or necessary for this kind of game. My single biggest complaint with older games has more to do with clumsy UIs than their actual graphics.
generally featuring Daleks
EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! I, too, generally play for the sandbox games, but the idea of a 'new' campaign aproach might change my opinion. Look at Imperium Galactica II and it's 'campaign' mode. Essentially, it's a sandbox onto which a semi-dynamic campaign has been grafted. You have teh standard sandbox 'here's a few cities, now build your empire', but random events pop
Demigod had the absolutely worst opening sequence ever. It was a bunch of pictoglyphs that went from simply stone to glowing lines with some James Earl Jones wanna-be voice yelling about becoming a god. I could have done it on my Commodore 64 when I was 10.
Fail. Just... epic fail. That opening cinematic was good. I've watched it several times, and it's just cool. Is it flashy? No. Is it
Thanks for the explanation, Ron. I figured it was something to that effect. My concerns is the stuff left out along the way. Kryo's attention to threads is amazing, but if recording info is still a manual process on his part, that's a TON of posting that needs to be monitored/sifted through.
He is Kryo! I don't play those when they offer them in 4X games, like evah. I prefer my sandbox. I wanna build my empire, not play a silly 'escort ther ing to mount doom!' game.

Based on past experiance... Kryo, essentially, will run through the threads and note any discussions and comments of worth, and sum them up in a running summary thread. Ocassionaly this thread will get truncated, because otherwise his enourmouse, overgrown OP causes the forums to break. Lets say that thread XYZ has a useful post "Bla bla de-blah, bla bla". Kyro will note it in his own thread with <link to XYZ "XYZ" <
Or they could lie.
True, but the only reason a person would refuse to answer is because they are under NDA and don't like lieing. (Not counting eets, who would refuse to answer just to stir up trouble...)
do you think they'd stop posting because they are too busy playing, or because they fear they may accidently break the NDA?
I know why I vanished when the Sins gamma occured, and it was only have because I was busy playing. Ever since, I've made it a habit to stay out of dangerous waters when I'm under NDA.
It's not that it is just cartoonish, but that it's extremely minimalistic.
Hrm, you make it sound like minimalistic is supposed to be an insult :P Sometimes, being minimalist / impressionist can actually improve the impact provided by an art piece. (For example, a story I wrote garnered some very good e-mails pointing out the fact that the minimalist approach I use on details really worked for the story)
