Looks like Ron was right (I recall he said if he were in charge it would be sent out today at the latest)
I'm always right. Except when I'm wrong, or left.
I thought that GalCivII would've been epic (as opposed to just really really good) with less cartoony art.
Um, the art was hardly 'cartooney' in GC2...
I'm sure you know exactly to whom you should pass your feelings.
You give me far to much credit. My contact information for SD is only to be used in emergencies... of which this is not one.
ROFL! I was thinking the same thing...
Assuming your'e reffering to the spam folder comment... there's a reason I've disabled the spam protection on every account I've got (except the g-mail ones; the g-mail ones won't let me).
Honestly Ron, if you are not on the list after all the countless hours you put in on other projects, I would be flabbergasted, frankly speaking. I sincerely believe they recognize your value on several levels and clearly understand your motivation so I would not fret brother man.
Yeah, well, I guess I have a self-esteem issue. So sue me :P
I happen to like the stylized approach to graphics for this type of game! There is nothing more annoying that having to mouse over every single tile simply because the graphics are so complex and detailed that I can't tell at a glance what the terrain type, improvments, and other 'fun' on the tile means. Sure, it looks good, but it gets in the fucking way. Besides, the way they're going looks good in it's own right, even if it is stylized.
I'm under the impression that NDAs are going to be mailed out prior to thursday so that the lucky ~100 can start playing on thursday.
Well, if that's the case then I imagine a lot of very happy people must have e-mail in their in-boxes. Well, they still have a few days, but *I* wouldn't put it out any later than tomorrow, simply to give those lucky people time to get it back in 'on time' before thursday release.
In fact, no one has said that they are 100% certain they will be selected, which honestly surprised me.
Doesn't surprise me. SD hasn't said who it will be bringing in, and even if you take a 'hand-picked team', the question is which previous games will they pull from? Sins gamma test? Demigod? GalCiv 2 ToA? Or, instead of porting whole teams, are they just going to grab a person here, a perosn there...
Question: does anyone know if thursday is the day we can start playing because they've released the stuff, or if it's 'merely' the day they start setting everything up? (Mailling out NDAs, registering serials but not giving access to the game, etc etc)
It was supposed to be a grotesquely evil looking icon nothing more.
Well... you succeeded!
But, dude, I may be a little over weight but that guy is just sick. It sickens me just to look at him!
Quoting kryo, reply 11 (I already had global mod power). You must have picked this up from a quest, because I don't see this as being available for research.
[e digicons]k1[/e] That is a good joke!
No offense, Spartan, but that guy must weight about 4 times what I do :P
Wow a bit touchy about my joke, aren;t we?
Either that, or I just 'one upped' you! :P
OMG, what a transparent play for an alpha spot! . . . . . . .
No, transparent would be me throwing in mentions of all the wonderful things I've done in previous betas, like Sins of a Solar Empire. Transparent would be me pointing out my name in the Sins of a Solar Empire manual. Transparent would be me ringing up every single contact I have in SD to see if I can't convince them to get me in...
I don't know if I'm in the alpha group (or not, as the case may be), so I could be about a month early for worrying about this... But does anyone know if Elemental is supposed to play nice with windows 7? I'd hate to have to turn around on launch day and have to reinstall Vista just because Elemental and Windows 7 don't play nice! (Either that, or maybe I'll be lucky and I'll be testing in on the OS they don't have very many people to test with... :D )
I'd rather just play a roguelike or classic RPG if I wanted to do that. funny you should say that. I was just talking to someone about how much I'd like to make a rouge-like out of Elemental's system.
http://sluggy.com/comics/archives/daily/060207 Sorry, just had to point it out :D
but in retrospect I wonder if it was done to ensure we focused on mathematics, algorithms, boolean logic, and other language-agnostic concepts.
Sounds, to a large degree, like my entire CS program. Sure, we have to learn C++, C (I skipped this because I transferred schools, and as a result I'm SOL when I have to do stuff in it), C# (I'm told), and there's a class specifically to expose us to ML (OK), Prologue (ICK!) and Dr.Scheme (Lots of Irritating

Wow, did you post enough?
I'm fine either way... ...But the extra polish time sounds like it'll have a lot more player input in decisions. The players will be more 'involved' in the end result. And I'd love that.
The scary thing is that with about a year to go on my education (if all goes as planned, I graduate this spring) I only understand about half of that :( (Okay, closer to 2/3s...) And even more annoyingly, several parts of what I do understand I only understand because a teacher tossed it out as an unimportant, but amusing, tidbit (const, for example... though I think that's because they want to deal with it in 144 instead of 41 for some reason). Most annoyingly, i
I wonder when / if we will find out if we're on the alpha list...
