Must... have... random... maps... *shiver* And yes, those cliff coastlines look poopy. More like a Warcraft 2 map...

Brad doesn't like hexes. (and there are reasons for that beyond personal whim = ) It's not happening. And since we're dealing with fractions anyway, it should be 1,414 not 1,5. =P Right now you can move to any square with 0,1 CS. That is silly. It should require at least more than half of the CS to "regularly" enter the square. That would... reduce... min/maxing exploits like units with exactly 2,1 CS because that gives the most bang for the b
Then, in the very next game, using the same custom sovereign, I came across arussa again. She still had the baby-cradle picture. She also had 135 essence. as far as i am aware, all wandering recruitable units have 0 essence. In my previous game, my sovereign had imbued spouse-arussa, so she had a large amount of essence. It seems for some reason, this had bled over into the new game.
I had something similiar happen. I played the same custom

I'm still leaning towards using the strategic speed for movement but I wish I could find a better AP based system that unifies combat actions to one stat. Even spell casting should be affected by the CS penalties of full plate, which isn't possible in an AP hybrid system that uses up say 50 % of a unit's CS for a spell. Same with bows. If their rate fo fire is never affected by full plate then you can indeed make them use 100% of their turns CS for one shot. But I feel t
Hmm, I still disagree. In my opinion creating a system where individuals are matched up against individuals, and armies are matched up against armies is the opposite of an artificial system; it’s the natural way to resolve the imbalance between unit strengths. I would also argue that far from being hugely convoluted, such as system is actually more intuitive for a 4x strategy, though I acknowledge that this is just my own personal perspective as a gamer.
The pro

Brad says that hexagons must die in a fire. I posted something quite similiar recently and think that shields should play a role in protecting the single champion, too. It shouldn't be perfect defense anyway. The champ should take the same percentage of damage as the protector, otherwise you'd have invulnerable units which is always a dumb idea. If the protector unit has shields, the percentage could be bigger or the protector taking a higher % (which is offset b

While I'm actually against showing players the "internal stuff" like the magic or fire resistance of a unit, it's unreasonable to expect all players to be able to figure out how much damage a fireball may do when fired on a particular unit. Some certainly will dig up all the values from the XML and run spreadsheets but surprisingly, some just want to play the game... So. When aiming a spell in the tactical battle (or if there will once be strategical damage

Reply to Why MoM? in War of Magic

I replayed MoM earlier this year. I can go back in time anytime I want and I don't need rose tinted lenses for that. =P

The magic in Elemental is somewhat lacking the "elements" bit. Right now the shards (well, once that system is fixed/implemented) are only a damage multiplier for generic, physical damage. That's so terribly wrong because it does not matter if you hit that fire giant with a 20 damage club or a 20 damage ice spell. Even the manual says that there are multiple resistances. (Bet ya didn't expect anyone to look there! ) <div id="ctl00__C

That players bring up the MOM system is to be expected because it has elemental spells, too, and unlike in the Elemental game, they had actual ties to the combat system, such as life spells to specifically hinder / destroy undead/chaotic (evil) creatures. Elemental is somewhat lacking the "elements" bit. Right now the shards (well, once that system is fixed/implemented) are only a damage multiplier for generic, physical damage. That's so terribly wrong. And it <e
While playing in cloth mode anytime you go to the menu and back your game is bugged to graphics mode and you have to load the game. So I always have to save the game first when I go to the menu to make changes and load the game up after changes. I start of a game with auto turn on and turn it off as the game progresses. That’s how I found this bug.
Nope. Zoom down below cloth map level and back out.

It's a post-apocalyptic Mad Max scenario so it actually makes sense that you'd be lucky to find any herd of horses. Humans are more... adaptible. The pricing and in-game use are questionable all right but "cavalry" doesn't have a real gameplay implementation anyway. Horse bowmen, heavy cavalry charging... there is no real point to or no implementation for that.

This is an attempt to make the city scroll bar on the left side of the screen somehow... useful. On the top of the screen there would be several buttons, turning sorting and display on/off. One button for each resource. City Name (normally, your cities aren't even sorted alphabetically, which is madness with 50+ cities) Level and Population current / max City level (important for building booster improvements) and production of th

If we must have chainmail bikinis then go all the way. Make them magical bikinis so the amazons can shoot lasers from their boobs or have a clickable "confuse" spell on the item. Any women around? What utterly ridiculous gear do you want to dress the male soldiers in? =)

Well, what they call "campaign" is more a scenario in my book. A single mission that could be part of a campaign. But ultimately it's wasted effort. How often would I play this one static mission over and over? I think - once. The GalCiv franchise (and MoM) has always been all about the random/skirmish maps. That's where the replayability is. But well - it says "campaign" on the box so there has to be at least a lip service given to that. *shrug*

I really think you should invent more categories. With a (practically) unsorted list of nearly 100 continuous pages (!), who is supposed to make use of it? The devs? Surely you jest. It's somewhat unlikely that your average player would read more than the first 10 pages of it so there are about 2 new duplicate threads about squad/unit mechanics every day. Also, one rule is important when using such a list: one idea per topic. Firm. "Wall of text" posts coveri

Separating the systems feels too artificial and means balancing yet another game on top of the current one but the "bodyguards" idea has been brought up a few times already And it has potential. The easiest way to implement it (from a user's point of few) were if a "hero" unit would only have to stay adjacent to regular troops. No more complicated than that. Any hugely convoluted system will not be useable by the AI, making it wo

Reply to Worth $50? in War of Magic

IMO it is worth 50$ and getting better every week. I wouldn't be playing so much if it were not. It has a whole lot more working content than many full price titles. The problem is that people are pissed that it promised a lot ^2 and doesn't deliver that - quite yet. =P
I actually like Elemental more than Master of Magic. I know, it's heresy! But, you know, MoM didn't have customizable units, technologies, quests, marriage, real-world city building, dynasties, modding, 3D graphics, a snazzy cloth map, and multiplayer (which will come soon). Elemental has everything MoM had and much more.
I would say the same if it weren't for MoM having magic that matters and hugely diverse units with a gazillion of funky special effects.</

To reproduce: Click on a city and hit "B". Once completely in the build menu (all zoming completed) : Hit ESC and immediately move the mouse wheel. Now popup windows no longer well... pop. Workaround: open and close the build menu without moving the mouse wheel.
