Only 2 days left until release I don't want to sound sappy here but we have been really touched by all the support we've gotten from you guys over the past couple of years that we've been working on this. One of the motivations for making so-called "niche" games is that we really enjoy our tight knit communities. We enjoy hanging out with you, listening to your ideas, arguing different game designs, etc. Earlier today, we went "gold"

Very interesting feedback. I am thinking you might want to try it with abundant resources and see how that works out for you in terms of being able to crank out lots of metal based units.

Reply to My game opinion in FE Beta

@Mmm Please remember we want to keep an environment where people feel comfortable giving their opinion on the game. @Lim. I'm sorry you don't like the game. If you bought War of Magic prior to release, you get FE for free. I think there may be a language issue here. It appears there are certain features that you think a strategy game should have that FE doesn't have and therefore you don't feel its "finished" as a result. All I ca

If you're a game developer, you're going to appreciate today's video. In most games (and by most, I mean, pretty much all) the in game art assets are pre-designed 3D models. That is, when you play Starcraft or Civilization or your favorite RPG, the "tiles" were put together with Maya or 3D Studio or some other modeling program. The Kumquat engine, and therefore Fallen Enchantress creates its in-game assets through the Tile Editor (where the components were made wit

If you're running a 32-bit Windows XP machine and would like to significantly improve the performance of Fallen Enchantress (and probably other games as well) you can configure it to see more memory than the default 2GB. Here's how: http://www.gidhome.com/gid3gb/index.html Specifically: Configuring MS Windows XP: add the flag /3GB &nb

Greetings! With release comes a lot of new people to the forums. We've created quite a community here over the past couple of years we hope to keep the forums a fun and interesting place for people to discuss topics related to the Elemental game universe. Below are the rules in no particular order that we ask people to respect and with my own commentary with them as to why they exist. Don't be a jerk. Pretend the other people are in the same room with you.

Only 4 days left! So let's talk about..The Fallen Enchantress. Originally, we were going to have a button that said "campaign" and the user would play through it and that would be that. But instead, we've renamed it "Scenarios" for two reasons. First, because we wanted to pave the way for additional scenarios in the future that could be added in without needing some "expansion pack". After all, the Fallen Enchantress campaign was created

I'm pretty sure Derek made some changes to this. Specifically, I think in faction creation you now get more total points but that some of the really big faction abilities cost 2 or 3 points or something.

As someone who has played PC strategy games since, well, since there's been PC strategy games to play, the thing that often stifles me is the late game. Often times, strategy games will bog down due to sheer wait time between turns or just collapsing under their own weight in micro management. Fallen Enchantress attempts to solve this through the use of a multithreaded game state architecture. What this means is that while you're taking your turn, a bunch of diff

@Xan, thanks for the kind words and support. I really hate trying to compare something as subjective as love of a game. Especially such disparate games. I'll be happy if people enjoy Fallen Enchantress and think it's a good game. It doesn't need to be "better" than X, Y, or Z. Each game can stand on its own merits. I'm really enjoying XCOM (other than not having used the auto save feature).

I agree. The fix for this might have made it into 992 but I'm not sure. We've been in "lockdown" for awhile now so I'm not sure if this one got classified as something that has to be in for release or not. But it is "fixed"(tm) internally.

When games come out, one of the things that helps them pass the test of time is modding. It's a big deal to us and in 20 years of making games, we've never put so much effort into modding as we have in Fallen Enchantress. Here's a video of me playing with the map editor today which comes with the game. Elemental: Fallen Enchantress will be released on October 23rd.
The argument has good merits, but I'm not totally convinced. First, even a single, properly (or poorly) fought/planned battle can turn the balance in the game of power. Happened in history several times. Second, if tactical battles are included, they should prove satisfying - if they are meant to mean little, maybe it's better to remove them. The argument about the target player base has more weight i

I think a lot of the criticism of Civ V is due to people who loved Civ IV wanting Civ V to be a more polished version. I don't think that's really fair. It should be judged on its own merits. Regarding the tactical battle discussion, it's a very tight balance there. Because the game should be won and lost based on the civilization you've constructed over hundreds of turns, not how well you use your units in tactical battles. As some of you know, I lobbied
