I'm in the code now seeing if I can have the AI better evaluate the actual traits. I coded up some new units for it to use but it still seems to be biased for the "cheaper" units.

Re City defeners - that's a very good point. I spent some time today re-designing units for a few of the factions, they're more axe oriented (and definitely more spear) oriented. I think hammers got the short-shift in this beta. Right now, the AI doesn't design its units. It uses what's in there. From playing this weekend, I've realized that the units available to the AI are just truly awful. I'm not sure if the last FE updates went into LH
Frogboy: one of the issues mentioned above is AI related. I am not sure, but does diplomacy belong to AI or to design? If diplomacy is AI field, i have examples from recent games of AI declaring war, not doing anything for 100 turns, making peace, and then declaring war/making peace every 10 turns or so. Never met a guy, and he got destroyed. Generally speaking, when war is declared on me, i am attacked 1 in 3 times
You created a thread blasting the AI with no specifics. When asked to give specifics you create a series of links to half-year old posts that provide virtually nothing I can act on. If you just want to vent about something, let me know. But since you posted this in the Legendary Heroes forum, I assumed you were looking to provide actionable feedback. I enjoy working on the AI. I'm sorry that our efforts aren't sufficient to satisfy you. Other
Yep. Perhaps you should find another game.
I'm afraid not. If you honestly would like to see improvements to the AI, you should be able to come up with a few specific things. Let me give you some examples I've seen from Beta 1 of LH: It doesn't seem like the AI players are training very good units. Were the units from FE transferred to LH for the AI to use? Middway through the game, I still see the AI training and using Militia. The AI seems to be slowing down in its build up

Also, map size and number of units matters a lot too. The game plays very differently based on just those two variables.
I've found that on the following type of map (list settings) that by doing the following (research warfare only, use axes, rush units, start wars early. whatever) that the AI can't keep up and falls behind very quickly. (If you want, you can add suggestions about thing the AI might do against this strategy.)
This is good feedback. To me, this sounds like a design issue rather than
You can change the pacing settings in game setup. When you set up your game, there is a world option called "Pacing". Change from "Normal" to "Fast" and see how that feels.
Unfortunately, we can't really improve the AI unless people give *specific* examples of what they're talking about. If you're really good at strategy games, you'll probably need to turn up the difficulty level. But we can improve the AI greatly if people post specifics.
NO. Betas should only be tried by those who are ready to put up with bugs and often bad game play. The purpose of the public beta is for people to give input on what they'd likee to see improved prior to release. FE 1.3 is really a better bet than LH beta 1.
Sorry Frogboy, but just because your game is closer to being mod friendly than another game doesn't mean it's 100% mod friendly.
I'm not even sure what "100%" mod friendly is. Each update we improve the modding and we get little credit. Therefore, it makes more sense to put resources into other areas of the game. After LH, I don't plan to put any particular focus on modding in our future titles

My own *personal* (i.e. not representing Stardock here) gripes have to do with modding and AI. Having modded a lot of games, including Civ IV, I have been somewhat irked at times at the level of hand holding that some people in the modding community expect. But that's nothing compared to the AI gripes. I don't think they realize how demotivational that is. The AI in FE is already pretty good. It can be better. Lots better and I enjoy working on AI. But
The game itself continues getting developed every day. It just means that Beta 1 will be further along in other areas. It's not like the rest of the team is sitting around having beers waiting for the shadows to get in. Even in beta 1, the shadows won't be "right", they'll just be better. The goal isn't to make the world realistic. But as game developers, we do have a desire to have our game be visually consistent. To use a book analogy, there

Frankly, I don't know why anyone would expect anything different considering the last time MS did anything with ARM was what twenty years ago? I
My understanding is that LH has a "IsTargetWorthy" expansion. The AI simply does a GetAIPriority on the target. So it wouldn't be my area anyway to handle.
I have to say, I'm getting pretty disappointed in Surface RT. I wrote up a fele project specs in word and found I couldn't email them (like I would from regular MS Word). There is no save and send. No matter, I save the doc to skydive, open up IE and go to Gmail. When I go to attach, the file dialog has no SkyDrive support (like I would on a normal PC). It's completely useless as a cloud device. SkyDrive continues to be its Achilles heel. It needs
I've asked Derek to check this thread out.
@jshores, From our perspective we made FE a very mod friendly game and have continued to improve on it. But instead of acknowledgement on just how mod friendly the game is we seem to instead be treated as if we've somehow misled users. Posts like yours make it hard to justify spending more engineering hours on mod support when it's clear that nothing we do will ever be good enough. We share our hopes as we work because we think of our customers as
I am skeptical whether LH beta will show up this week. But yea, Steam keys will go out me thinks.
