My sov gallops across the map, stuns the Lich Agonis and the bastid is still able to get his Despair spell off 
... to add insult to injury he didn't lose a turn at all. I still took the un- out of his undead... but I didn't get the quest until a little later in the game. Would have been a TPK with a younger sov.
