They are trying to stay alive, it makes sense to me because that's what I do with my units. Move them out of melee danger when they get low.

this is totally different

one thing is trying to manouver to make low hp units stay in a safe place, one thing is scatter for the battlefield not doing anything to protect wounded units etc etc

its not like this ai mechanic is good but with few bugs or something

is just totally flawed and pointless

also they just RUN, they dont manouver , they RUN for 1 2 turns then come back for no reason, plz man dont try to defend this its no help

To answer this off-topic comment... Yes I am aware it was the internet, - There is never a need to sign any comment in formal letters, phyiscal mail, email, forum, text, anywhere. You can do it some places where it fits, you can do it some places because you want to.

I was merely puzzled by what he was talking about, I actually never translates running into -> trying to escape combat. Not saying he posted it wrong, just saying I needed help, so it was not a "mere comment" as much as a question for clarification.

I never have this problem. But then I don't ever use Automove/auto combat EVER.

But there is no point in retreating, because the unit can not escape from the tactical battle.

You are right, if the unit has regeneration or can be healed by the Sovereign moving back is a very good tactic.

Baby steps.  Brad probably just wrote the AI subroutine "Move back when near death".  Now he will add the following:

a ) "Move back when near death unless opponent near death too"

I know, that is why I am speaking for the feature, each feature needs a little time to "grow up" before it is anything near viable
