Questions about staves

Is anyone using the ranged staves? To me their dmg seems rather weak.

Do you know if the dmg done with them increases with users's attack ?

Chance to hit with them is based on accuracy or spell power ?

Chance to resist their attacks is based on defense or spell resistance?

they are just all totally unbalanced, just dont bother for now and wait next build

as for your questions, i think its considered normal dmg like a bow but being elemental damage can be reduced but the traits/skills reducing elemental dmg

Staves ignore all armor, meaning a single staff does 2-4 damage against any unit. A group will do 5-10 damage and has less encumbrance less of an initiative penalty than bows. For the vanilla game, bows are weak compared to staves, but staves cost crystal. I suggest getting the Amulet tech and then longbows. It provides a nice mix of physical damage and magical attack. It's perfect for killing monsters. On the other hand, melee is about three times as effective in crystal use, so maybe just stick to lightning hammers with your amulets.

I usually always ignore ranged weapons and in the current build consider the "No ranged weapons" a benefit due to not needing to research ranged weapon technology to get to the end of the warfare tree.

Both staves and Bows seems slightly worse than melee weapons IMO, I might be wrong but... Melee weapons just works so well..

Chance to hit is based off accuracy (I think) but would be cool if dependant off spell mastery, I still miss the "Magician" squads from the old MoM, and all the other magical trainable units.

Thx for answers guys.

Is there a place where I could find more information about how stats work in current version (0.952) ?

In game help still lists strength dexterity and intellect as attributes.

Is piercing dmg identical to cutting and blunt dmg?

I've seen pikes that have an "ignore 66% of defense " property but nothing similar for bows which is weird considering the bows i found so far are a lot worse than melee weapons (except pikes that also seem to suck).

Staves ignore all armor,
End of seanw3's quote

well if they do fire dmg i suppose they are against fire resistance not armor, or?

Fire Damage can only be reduced by Fire Resistance. Armor is not a factor in the equation.

Yet another opportunity to say how weak attack values are across the board,  and ranged is weak compared to melee.  Stop the Clink! fest.
