im talking about the change about all champions now being able to cast and the removal of imbuing them
well i do like the change first of all but after playing i still see a few flaws:
1) lack of uniqueness, since all champions cast and since the traits are the same basically they are too similar, and the gameplay will also follow the main traits, if you have a fire lvl 2 you will cast a lot of bolts whatever stats/equip/other traits that champion has
2)sovereign not feeling that much powerful, its very common to recruit champions much stronger, and also a few traits like spell dmg bonus and the best spells are enough to make a random caster champion much more useful than the sovereign himself (im only talking magic wise in here, ofc there are warriors and other stuff to consider)
3)champions shouldnt really have multi school of magic or they should have a small pool of spells totally different from each other that should characterize them more
4)some (a good portion imo) champions should really NOT BE a mage and just be a full warrior without any school of magic or archer and so on, its very boring aspect of them now that they all cast (and often all cast the same spells)
5) gameplay has turned too much into ranged shooting, b4 with less mana, the need of imbue, the better scaling of melee etc the gameplay allowed more variation imo, now everyone cast too much and early on it seems to be the best option to just make a party of ranged shooters either archers or mage but to just nuke the opponent without any risk
6) fire is too common
(i may be wrong on this, maybe its just RNG but every game i played i just ended with 70% of champions casting fire thigns dunno)
dont get me wrong, i do like magic its ofc one the most fun things to do but i fear this patch turned too much into a spam magic fest while i d rather magic to be powerful and feared but less common
possible solutions:
-way less magic traits imo on 10 champions you should have 5-6 shools of magic total(in my last game in my party of 6 champions i think i had lik 12 schools)
-no multi school champions or at least very very rare
-if possible champions with same school of magic should have at least some different spell from each other
-if the above is not possible/too hard i d like a selection of spells on magic traits ie, on level up when you pick life adept or similar you only get 1-2 spell for that either random or you choose so in the end all champions dont end up with the same exact spells, maybe only sovereign should have them all
-higher number of abilities on champions and id rather have abilities less on traits (That would lead as usual to only pick and 2 top abilities and skip the rest) and more native on them so they would be more different and unique
-some active spell/ability on town champions, the idea of having them boost cities is cool imo, but they also need something to do while standing there, not just be a buff bot afk(for example a spell/ab that buff the outcome of mines for n turns )
