Draft 2: Espionage branch in the diplomacy tech tree.
Expenditures in this area reflect the development of intelligence services oriented around;
- a. Intelligence Gathering - allowing you to to view a report of what is in an enemy city (buildings and units).
- b. Assassination - Assasins can kill enemy heros in a tactical battle where they face the hero alone.
- c. Counter-Intelligence - Inceases the chance that enemy spys and assassins entering your citiy trigger a tactical battle where the enemy agent (spys and assassins) faces the local guards in battle that occurs on a map of a stone building's interior.
A. Intelligence Service - building (researching) an intelligence network would allow you to recruit and use spies. Spies are unique heroes that can enter enemy towns to provide intelligence on the buildings and troops in that town.
-- Allows recruitment of Spys
A spy unit can enter an enemy city wihout initiating combat.
When a spy unit enters an enemy city you can can access a report that summarizes what buildings and units lie within the city. Each turn a spy is in a city there is a chance the spy will be detected by the enemy.
"Spy Megal was not detected after entering an enemy city. You can now access a report dated 3400EM that tells you it is guarded by an army of 300 points and has a population of 30 and contains 1 barracks, 3 farms, 20 homes, 1 tower of sorcery and 1 castle."
"The following turn Spy Megal was detected and slain in combat with the local guards. You can now only access the report dated 3400EM, as there is no spy in the city to update it with current information. If Megal had survived the tactical combat with the local guards she would appear in the nearest friendly city. - as the game system assumes that she fled the city after being detected."
B. Assassination - allows the recruitment of Assassins. Assassin can enter an enemy town to assassinate a randomly selected enemy hero based in that town. This attempt triggers a tactical battle in a map of a stone building's interior where the assassin faces the enemy hero (who may be accompanied by guards or other hero's).
--- Allows recruitment of Assassins
"Assassin Sylon enters the town of Waren where 3 heros are based; Mayor the merchant, Faotang the hunter and Gulog the Trog Warrior. Sylon is not spotted by the local guards and can select one of the three to target, selects the hero Gulog. This triggers a tactical battle where Sylon and Gulog face one another in a one-on-one battle on a map that represents a floor in a stone building."
C. Counter-Intelligence - increases the chance than enemy spies and assassins will trigger a tactical battle with a fraction's guards by 10% each time this is researched.
--- Allows recruitment of Bodyguards. Bodyguards are assigned to hero's or sovereigns. If an assassin attempts an attack on a hero with a bodyguard the assasin faces both the target and his personal guards in tactical combat.
Example: Spy enters town of Mayor, The ironeers have not researched Counter-Intelligence so there is a small chance (5%) of the spy triggering a tactical battle; in a map that shows the interior of a stone building, when he enters this town.
Example: Spy enters town of Ugden. The trogs have researched Counter-Intelligence 3x and have a 35% of triggering a tactical battle when a spy enters this town. Furthermore, the spy, faces not one, but 4 guards on a map that shows the interior of a stone building.
Example: Assassin enters town of Ugden and targets Hero Merx. Merc has a two bodyguards. The assasin now faces Merx and his two guards in tactical combat.
New Hero Types:
A. Spy
- Moving alone it an enter an enemy city without initiating combat. Spy in a city updates an intelligence report on that city.
- Friendly spy; in a friendly city, has a chance to spot enemy spies and assassins that attempt to enter the city. Spotted spies and assassins are engaged in tactical combat with city guards and friendly spy hero. Surviving enemy spies and assasins are expelled from the city to the nearest friendly city, before they can update an intelligence report or attempt an assassination.
- Note: Spies do not wear metal armor
B. Assassin- Moving along, it can enter a city without initiating combat. Can select an champion or sovereign in the city to attack in one-on-one tactical combat.
C. Bodyguard - Assigned to guard a specific (non-spy, non assassin) hero or sovereign. Only engages in combat against Assassins.
