Incompatible save games after 1.1 update?

Forgive me if this was posted anywhere or explained, when I try to search I get a javascript error.

I stopped playing Elemental (around 1.08, apparently) because of numerous crash issues, but after installing the 1.1 update I can't load any of my saved games as they give an error about being incompatible. Is there something I can do to fix this so I can continue playing, or do I have no choice but to start over?

You not even can use a savegame from last beta patch 1,09w so yes you need to restart. Game mechanical completly change since 1.08

It makes complete sense. There's whole buildings and resources that didn't exist in 1.08 that are now part of 1.1. How could the game possibly interpret how you built a city back in 1.08 for the current game mechanics?

If you look at all the facts involved, it's really not that astonishing.

How is this astonishing?   Would you rather wait an extra two months while the dev team builds tools to translate old save games to the new engine and scripting?

If so, I think your opinion is in the minority.

Not to downplay many of Elemental's problems, but I'm sure many users get problems for doing this exact thing. People have reported that custom factions and sovereigns from even recent beta versions retain problems when used with the newest versions.

It sucks for those of us that enjoy long games, but it's best to scrap everything: game, custom factions and sovereigns, with every update.

IIRC custom units are stored within the faction folder, so deleting your faction folder gets rid of all the units.
