I see frequent discussion of the 1.1 beta in forum posts, but how does actually join the beta? Is it by a fixed number of invitations or is it open? Thanks.
You just change the setting in impulse to allow beta builds to be installed. It is in the little options menu in the upper left corner of the games tab.
Get ready to break through the fun barrier, despite the increased number of crashes.
These beta patches have me playing again for the first time since September.
I would also set the autosave timer to 0 so it saves every round. Otherwise the crashes will piss you off a lot. I think people say more saves = more crashes, but they also = less lost turns.

That will show you how to enable betas.
Just in case anyone thought differently, the beta is open only to those who own the game. Just thought I'd point that out.
1.1 beta is closed to whiners, complainers, noobs, weaklings, wussies, lollygaggers, and Lord Xia. all others are welcome.
Thanks for the help. I just picked up the game two days ago and have a love/hate already with it. Since it crashes fairly regularly already, figured I would move to the Beta instead of "learning" the 1.0.x series.
Gave this a try and now have 1.09p Beta installed. However, is 1.1 a different branch with a different mechanism of access or are they synonyms somehow?
1.09p is the most up-to-date 1.1 beta. There will be more patches before 1.1 is released, the next one is named 1.09q (which is also 1.1 beta).
Lord Xia just has emotional scars because Frogboy wouldn't publicly ackowledge replaying his saved games to learn what not to have the AI do.
