Liked my wife so much I took her in to battle with me. She got killed and now no matter how many female heroes I hire, the option to propose never turns up. Do you only get one shot at wedded bliss?
You can't remarry, yeah. You're a widower for life.
Though supposedly, you could sell your wife (while alive) and remarry.

You can sell heroes. I would definitely not rely on a random post like that, though, without saving and reloading if it doesn't work, heh.
It's not random. I've seen the option to do it when you are late enough in the game (i.e. enoigh diplomacy researched). You trade your wife as a hero and propose to another chick.
