I get a decompression fault error and it can't find the central folder. I emailed star-dock support and I hope they can help.

The issue is with your isp/networking or your PC, so the imperative to 'fix' something is on you not them. You've no basis with which to demand anything.

It's possible that the issue is with corrupted data.

In Impulse, click on the menu button in the upper left, then Preferences, then the "Reset Data" button.

Also, a cancel and restart may work better than a resume.

Sadly Absynthminded is right about isp, and I don't think SD will change policy on patches. Standalone patches could be uploaded and then be at disposal of everyone with a pirate version.

Have you tried contacting your provider?

Pardon me, but as a paying customer, I think I do have the basis to demand a fix for my problem.

You can download an up-to-date version from http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com It is a bit annoying now because the patches are coming quick, but on a fast enough internet connection it doesn't take long and the frequency of the updates will die down. The archives from Anywhere can be installed without an internet connection at all, so you shouldn't have any problems with it.

You are correct that you 'can' demand anything you like, as a paying customer. However SD has no control over your special issues. Get a different PC with a properly installed and updated version of the game, remove it, hook it up to your network and install it off impulse, and then update. Likewise take your PC somewhere someone you know had an updated game, and try doing it off their connection. If someone else can do it at your house, it's something with your PC. If you can do it at someones house, it's your home networking or isp.

AbsynthMinded, I've been through all of this while discussing the issue with Stardock's tech support. If any of it had proven to be a viable solution, I wouldn't still be complaining about it, would I?

We shifted to Impulse-only because it saves us the time, testing, and cost of creating standalone updates, allowing us to deploy updates much more rapidly. I'm not sure that we even have the infrastructure in place any longer to make standalone patches (it's been a couple of years at least).

So this essentially means I won't be able to get any further updates to the game without resorting to either impractical or outright unreasonable means, like re-downloading the entire game everytime an update is released or visiting my neighbours to use their internet connection instead.

This is probably a stupid question as I asume you have probably tried this already, but have you tried totally uninstalling Impulse then re-installig it?

Frogboy, Impulse Anywhere will only allow me to re-download the entire game, not individual updates, and thus, it's not a practical solution. As I've stated previously, downloading the game takes me around 14 hours, and I'm not willing to suffer through this for an update weighing less than 10 megabytes.

gee, sounds like your impulse install is corrupted...

1. Uninstall IMPULSE (not the games)

2. Delete leftover files

3. Install latest version of impulse...

PS. they can, and do, do refunds on occasion. And they are more likely to refund you then make stand alone updates.

Anyways, try actually contacting tech support.

taltamir, I assure you, everything's fine with my installation of Impulse. Besides, Soulfire777 already suggested this. About contacting tech support, that's what I've been doing during the past two months. They've given up on my problem after we exhausted all options.

They will be offering dvds in September (planned date at least) with the latest patches, I don't know many details on it.

14 hours? where do you live? 1,000 miles from a city? wow seriously, My connection downloaded the whole game in 20 minutes....maybe you should move.

Alot of places have bad connections. I live in a place with decent speed but I am capped at 5 gig a month which I pay 90 dollars for. I am trying to move where I can get true highspeed but that is alot of hassle. Can't believe the CRTC in Canada allows the telecommunication companies to blatenly rob people.

Canada is ranked as one of the top overcharged country for things like internet and cell phones. Cheaper to get high speed and a good cell plan in alot of the third world countries. The say it is for maitanence but once something is built (which cost alot) taking care of it is very cheap. Somehow they keep making record profits to boot.

wow...yeah thats gay as all hell. I have a 12 Mbps connection for only 40 bucks a month with no limit here in the usa....those guys are robbing you blind.

Tell me about it... We're paying 35€/month for a so-called "DSL lite" connection, which has an average bandwidth of ~380 kbps. However, Stardock's tech support has assured me this would be sufficient for the proper use of Impulse.

Try deleting the data in your options menu I had this problem and that was the fix, unfortunately I had to re-download after this but then it worked with no complaint. Again this isnt really stardocks problem, and personally I think they have the best piracy protection in this manner , much preferable to the alternatives.
