By plains do you mean dimensions?
Here is the map of the world Brad posted but this is probably for the main story.
By plains I meant planes.
Master of Magic had 2 planes of existence: Arcanus and Myrror. When you started a new game, each plane was generated independently of the other. In essence, there were 2 completely different world maps.
So what, big deal right? The real strategy of the concept is that travel between the planes was very restricted. There were a small number of wizard towers located around the world and they were mirrored on both planes. If you managed to clear the monsters out of the wizard tower, you could use it transport your troops to the opposite plane.
There was also a planeshift spell and a few creatures with the innate planeshift ability (shadow demons being the most infamous example). Planeshift allowed you to move your armies/creatures to the opposite plane anywhere, not just at a wizard tower.
The other major strategic aspect to the 2 planes in MoM was the major difference between them. Myrror looked completely different, had far better resources (adamantium, crysx crystals, far more mana in nodes etc) and was home to far more powerful monsters and special races (dark elves, trolls, beastmen, draconians, dwarves).
Most wizards began on Arcanus, though one could choose the retort Myrran which started the player on Myrror. This gave you access to the special races as well as a world far less crowded with opponents and far richer in resources.
