There has been ALOT of back and forth discussion on the camera in the office since we made the decision to go with a Diamond shaped Mini-Map. There were actually default camera modes (using the function keys) that snapped to a more CivII, non Isometric style of play, but using the mini-map became very painful (imagine dragging the mini-map view left and the screen moving up...extremely disorienting) This is why all the included camera Views are set to that isometric view, so w

I'm just going to touch on the "Colony Module" issues right now, since it's been of much discussion in the office the last month. There are several Catch 22's that we keep running into concerning larger ship components that the player needs (Troop Mod and Colony Mod, to be specific). The golden rule here is that the pre-made ships will need to contain parts that the user has access to at the start of the game. 1. We only want the Colony Modules and the Troop Modules to

Tactical Map: Right now we have the icons in a set position. They don't display the direction the ships are heading, just what type of ship/fleet they are. We had the little icons rotate at one time, but they became less readable. Main Map: That's really weird..I've never seen ships face any other direction by forward as they moved. We'll look into it!

Hey guys! Elerian1: Yeah, it's good to post your specs, but even better, if you want to go into your GalCiv2 directory and find the "Debug.err" file and send that to [email protected] with a description of the problem, that'd be awesome. If your game ran w/o AntiAliasing, just go into the GalCv2/Data directory, open the "Prefs.ini" file, and set the "Multisample" value to equil "0" (ex. If you changed it to 4x AA, it'll look

Even if there's no textures it should definatly be showing the player's colors (grey and blue). Could you find another race in the galaxy and see if their ships are colored?

Is it still that high when you select a different window? I beleive any game that uses DirectX, when running and selected, becomes the main process and sucks up a moajority of the CPU. Also, what's your system specs?

https://www.stardock.com/products/smartexception/ One of the apps we have is a crash handling utility called "SmartException". Instead of just sending the error files from crashed games, players running this program can send a file containing the address of the chunk of code that caused the crash. Needless to say, this little puppy can save WEEKS worth of frustrating bug hunting, which of cou

I know most of your are GC1 players, so most of this is already known...but I'll post it just in case. Actually, alot of the 3d stuff is new, so hopefully my terminology isn't...well, wrong. ;) **Main Map Controls** -When any Map Object is Selected (Planets, Stars, Ships, Anomalies) <FONT style=

work into the new governors. If your have X governor on your planet and there are no ships in orbit, purchase a Y ship to dock and defend. But as for a Planetary Improvement that accompolishes this task, no plans are in the works.

Hmm...I did this to prove a point, but I think it may have backfired. Anyways, you can either be cynical about this sort of thing or you can have faith that some good can come out of a war that you don't necessarilly beleive in. If we've genuinely helped others, then perhaps we should feel some releif , opposed to fighting it <img src="../images/smiles/joke.gif" border=0 A

Welcome back to our next installment of "Character Design 101"! Last session we ended up with a pretty cool looking space bunny with spikes at the ends of his ears and a high-tech robo-suit named, fo

For anyone that doesn't know me, my name is Scott Tykoski, and I've been an artist at Stardock Entertainment for about 4 years now. One of the great things about Stardock is that, on average, it's a 40 hour job. Unlike some of the horror stories getting leaked about the game industry, I get in early, work 8-9 hours day, and get to go home for a bit
