If you want to get a glimpse at two creatures from elemental as well as the zooming map in motion head over to the demigod forum and look at the new video posted there . Elemental is featured from 2:23 - 2:32 and 3:45 - 4:53. Even so we won't get to see the detailed map in the first beta I'm still looking very much forward to it. <img src="http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/2696/capture05062009233212.jpg" alt="Sandc

Instead of quoting the whole post I'll just use this passage
A turn based strategy game needs to have deep mechanics to work with. But it needs to decide where its core is. In Colonization it was in the economy, so resource management, resource transport and such made sense. If that is goign to be the core of Elemental then go for it. But I suspect that Elemental is going to be focusing on units and combat. &nb

In a short video posted on the Demigod forums you can catch a peek of something you can speculate about. Direct link to full video is here .
According to the tentative sched Brad posted, Beta 0 is planned for June, not August, and everyone with a pre-order can participate.
I wouldn't be too surprised if Beta 0 is delayed for a month because of the massive amount of work done on Demigod right now. Brad in one post stated that they had even the art team for Elementa

I wanted to hear about the Elemental stuff specifically, and 15 minutes later they're still talking about Demigod.
It's just like radio except that you can skip bits. So what's wrong with that? But for those who want to skip the Demigod bit: Elemental gets discussed starting at 28:40 minutes and runs until 46:39 (total time of the podcast is 55:34 minutes).

OK, so this is mainly about Demigod, but there's a little (and I really mean little) peek of elemental developement in the video. So for those who don't read the Demigod forums AND hunger for even the smallest hint about Elemental here's the link to Brad's post: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/348714 Word of warning: the video is about 190 MB, runs 27 minutes and the interesting bits are just 15 seconds from 4:45 to 5:00. But ther

One reason calculated results and player controlled battle is often so far off is because you can act with all your units at once and thereby minimize losses by concentrating your spells/attacks so that the opponent has fewer offensive capabiliti
Posts were a split-second apart, and if it works like Wahngrok says, then I rescind my previous statement.
I'm hoping it works this way because it's a good way to let single-player and multi-player battles behave the same way (and be managable in an acceptable time-frame). I don't mind a Total War like tactical combat system for single player because I can pause at anytime and think about what to do next. But multiplayer is complet

If you could make a Carcassonne total conversion you could probably make one for any board game as well. Ah, the possibilities... And even better: Master of Magic reloaded. [e digicons]:sun:[/e]

Since not all of you may be watching the Demigod forums here's a nice treat of Stardock pictures. Elemental developement can be seen on some of them. Feel free to speculate. [e digicons];)[/e] Thanks to Frogboy for posting it.

While eye-candy is nice it almost always doesn't make or break a game. Bad gameplay mechanics however will. I never liked the style-over-substance approach. So no problem with me if you go the way of the Dwarf Fortress (although the cloth map does admittingly look better than ANSI graphics). ;)

The strategic choice in this case would be which field of study to emphasize. I agree with Nathaniel as I feel that a little randomness helps keeping one on the edge and focusing more on the overall strategic choices and not to micromanage everything.
