Well, if you want to get serious about scary insects, we need some members of the wasp family. Giant yellowjackets could make you wish you'd run into giant spiders instead. And then there are all the fun options presented by their surreal range of parasitizing behaviours. I forget the name, but there's one wasp species whose adults can invade an ant nest, lay an egg in an ant grub, and after the egg consumes the ant grub to reach its own grub stage, it can use pheromones to trick the

I'd prefer my Extremely Serious Wizards not to have pants as well. Pants imply strong physicality at minimum and are pretty easily associated with aggression on account of how handy they are for cross-country hikes and riding horses.

I started out wanting to note that I couldn't figure out which Audio option to disable so the game would be quiet when I tabbed to another window. I still want to be able to do that, but the fact that I can 'disable' all audio options and still have some 'atmospheric' audio playing seems like a bug-bug, not just a preference bug. In the instance I have running, my selected unit is just outside our capital. I'm hoping that the muttering, hammering, and horse clip-clopping I hear is ind

Nice tour of arachnid-land. I'd like to see the Giant Spiders replaced with a small family of Interesting Arachnids, Mostly Large. Guard tarantulas for the home, wandering wolf spiders to keep travelers wary, and maybe some industrious silk-makers you could hire to decorate and/or trap fortifications with cobwebs and orbs. Some recruitment-friendly giant trapdoor spiders would be swell, too. Incidentally, trapdoor spiders might be one of the 'justifications' for the stubby leg thing.<
... From what I've already seen internally, it would have been a disaster had we turned on the graphics engine early because the city building is enthralling enough to cover up weak game mechanics (i.e. I fear it would have made Elemental migrate in the direction of Caesar IV - a great game to be sure but not what we're aiming for).
You've warned us 'new' beta folks lately against getting too fond of any given game mechanic because big changes are still possible. Bara, this seems to be an erratic thing for me not affected by restarts or hard refreshes. Wednesday when I read your reply 3, the only problem I was getting was some slipperiness/stickiness when it came to using CTRL+I to toggle italics. Today, CTRL+I was still not acting stable, but I could get a draft that looked right until after I submitted it ( https://forums.elementalgame.com/380406 ).
But I doubt the multiplayer beta will be just about the multiplayer aspect (stable connections, communication and stuff like that). So far we have only been playing against very dumb AI's, but with multiplayer it's like you have a full-fledged AI that is looking for the best way to defeat you.
I can't find it quickly, but Brad typed something recently to the effect that there are two reasons for bringing MP in for beta 2: testing the core MP functions themselves <span s

Any chance that some pants (or at least short skirts) are in the customizing plan for the females? I was starting to go for a Huntress sort of sov, but long skirts are not good for tracking game. Some footwear choices would be swell, too. You should be able to tell something about a sov of any gender just from the footwear. Soft slippers for the palace-lovers, bare feet for the sailors, moccasins for the hunters, etc.
I think we should have all 3 maybe exclude recruiting.
Yes indeed for the 'both' excluding recruiting. Ditching the recruited dragon idea but retaining both dragon IOUs/markers and the idea of dragon eggs/hatchlings (as in Song Ice and Fire) sounds far better than having the average late-game sovereign wondering whether she had kept up with the Joneses in terms of recruiting adolescent or middle-aged dragons.

It does it in the editing box for me in my updated FireFox browser, and it's very annoying. p.s. This also seems like further non-scientific evidence support the theory that most dev shops hate keyboards and/or literacy is almost over, in world-historical terms. At this rate, in another decade or two MS Office will include a new app that makes PowerPoint look like a stone age tool when it comes to making both speakers and listeners feel unjustifiably smart.

Sounds like an opportunity to apply "Simple systems work together to create complexity." Connect the advisor code to the champions code and let players at lower difficulty levels start the game with a free champion who has few-to-no assets other than the advisor capability. Could also be a good vehicle for leveraging more Random House novel content for the campaign components if you can pull some characters from that story to serve as advisors. (And yes, I'm also thinking about Scott's idea a

Spending a "dragon marker" sounds MUCH more fun than having one simply join your forces permanently. Fits much better with the notion that the mature ones in Elemental verge on being a force of nature in their own right.

I've seen an oscillation over the weekend with 25 points coming and going from my total viewed on Elemental while my total at GC2 stayed stable; Elemental seems to have settled on -25 for me. My karma details page via elemental.com seems intact, but I don't check it that often. (I thought the OT change at Elemental was the culprit, but I still see karma from OT threads in my list.)

There's also some back-story/mechanics talk from the devs about this in threads like The Tragedy of Procipinee . For sandbox and campaign games, there's a historical figure who made sure that all channelers knew how to use their essence to restore cataclysm-blasted lands to health, although the definition of healthy lands depends on whether your faction is aligned with life magic or death magic.

I agree with folks from the 'original' version of this thread that it's too early to get serious about details for a project like this, but I'm an economy Camp 1 guy in my heart and I might have time & interest in volunteering for the project if the Elemental meaning of 'fun' ends up being detail-poor for me, which looks distinctly possible at the moment. In addition to wanting a richly modeled economy (at least in the background and controllable with moderate UI digging), I'm esp
