Fixed for me at least [0.3] Bug/Interface: clearing all check boxes on Audio tab leaves some sounds playing

I started out wanting to note that I couldn't figure out which Audio option to disable so the game would be quiet when I tabbed to another window. I still want to be able to do that, but the fact that I can 'disable' all audio options and still have some 'atmospheric' audio playing seems like a bug-bug, not just a preference bug.

In the instance I have running, my selected unit is just outside our capital. I'm hoping that the muttering, hammering, and horse clip-clopping I hear is indeed intended to be based on the selected unit's location. I also hope it will be clear whether those sounds are SFX, Music, Event Music, and/or Layered Music (the and/or bit there is especially vexing).

Most of all, I hope that the game will simply be silent if it is not the active window regardless of audio settings.

If you zoom out, the "muttering, hammering, and horse clip-clopping" fade out, so I think you're probably right that they are based on the location.  Interesting that none of the audio controls will turn it off, though.

This seems fixed for me in .805. I still don't understand what the relationship/differences between the Enable Music and Enable Layered Music check boxes on the Audio tab, but now the game goes silent when I switch away from it with all the Audio options selected, even when I'm zoomed in enough to see smoke from fires, which is pretty seriously zoomed in for my crappy excuse of an Nvidia hybird network/video card...
