Is it just me or do the Tiles shown have 16 segments, versus our current 4? Certainly the OP image is not 4 combined, or single 16 Tiles, given the text included...

If we think way, way, way back, we can remember the animation discussion and the thought on how all the differing components that make up an object would be rendered seperately. I believe a horse, its armor, saddle and the like was the example provided at the time. Assuming that line of thought/creativity has persisted, then the screen shots are indeed showing place holders and the individual characters will have

In any case, they are going to alter the Diplomacy: ie take it in a new and interesting direction if they can, and it will perhaps re-enter Beta 2 within a couple weeks or join as part of Beta 3.
I would also like to think it was directly due to current Forum Discussions.<span styl

Well given that this is not a new problem, I guess we should put our heads together and see if we can find a true "Balance" between Magic and Military. or even better, how best to combine the 2 so that even the Magic freak will have to have some troops in defense of his stuff, and visa versa or both singular focuses are nothing more than Loses in waiting...
Yeah, I'm not actually that keen on completely specialized research. I really like your suggestion, and I think I do agree with this concern. I think that they should either go with something like your suggestion, or retain the general research structures like schools, but also make specialized structures provide research for the relevant research line. But then, would specialized RPs build up even if you aren'

@Tormy Any ideas on how they might present the Border? A wiggly line does seem a bit weak. It appears to use your Faction color palette, Check the SoV. Any real object would have to be torn down and moved as the Empire expands... Perhaps a transparent 2 foot high wall (assuming a 6 foot tall SoV) that appears gelatinous\malleable in nature?

The level of detail available is amazing. If you do a "Waldo" on the 3 images, you can count how many "objects" are removed as the detail level shrinks so it is to be assumed that each is an Entity in its own right. There must be 40-50 items removed. Very, very Cool!

Necro'ing this one back to LIFE seeing as Beta 2 looms. If you missed this one before, please add your name and we can start to coordinate our TZ's and preferred Play/Test times amongst the noted participants. Or you can just hope someone is on when you are. ;)

@pigeonpigeon and Saije You both have valid counters arguments. All I am saying is, "if it possible, it will be abused". That is the way of some gamers everywhere you play. Especially when they get a chance to face off versus other human opponents ala MP. I am not making this argument for any other reason than to try an
Who says that heroes would get access to the most powerful combat spells?
The current Beta says so. Hero's can be imbued with Essence and thus gain their own personal Mana Pool and when they do they get access to ALL available researched spells. That may indeed change. But we have to go on what info we are

So I guess first chance we get, we will need to see how the early Magic system, will stack up against the early armor protection system, or the combination of the two. What I loath the see is armies marching in formations while under little magic umbrellas that act as "Anti Magic" Shielding... (shudders)

I would also like to reiterate my idea that all of those research points should count towards whichever single path you've set at any given time, in order to avoid having to keep track of five different research categories simultaneously. However only the warfare RP producing structures will produce RP at full capacity when researching towards warfare while all others would produce at half (o
