When reporting visual issues like this, please provide a screenshot so we can see exactly what you mean.
Page fault in nonpaged area BSODs typically indicate bad RAM, HDD corruption, or cache failures.
What does the combat log say if you check the details on the combat screen?
Please provide your debug.err file as per the reporting guide so we can see your driver versions and such as well.
Should be fixed internally.
If this issue persists through a save/load, please provide the savegame.
Inventory items can only be used by the sovereign and champions. Regular units can carry items, but they can't use anything but what they're equipped with at design time.
Children are supposed to inherit traits/professions from their same-gender parent, though that they'd get the stubborn trait when only the sovereign can escape battle to begin with (AFAIK) seems a bit odd.
Please provide the memory dump file, debug.err, etc., as noted in the reporting guide sticky.
Which screen did you select the tech on in the initial crash? Research window, breakthrough, etc.
Does it remain missing if you load a save of that game? If so, please provide it.

How were you able to cast it a second time? It shouldn't be castable twice at all. Also, when reporting any crash please provide the memory dump file (if there isn't one, note such so we don't have to ask).
You can post dump files via dropbox as described in the reporting guide sticky. Also, please post debug.err files via dropbox or an external text host too so that the threads don't get too long that they're hard to read.
Some other users have reported that the build items appear if the game is run in windowed mode--give that a shot.
If you run into this again, please provide a savegame if the problem persists upon reloading it.

Are you sure you had sufficient resources? If you did, we'll need more detail about what context you encountered this under, as it does not seem to reproduce under normal circumstances.
Did this happen after you researched Harvesting? Several others have reported such an issue.
Edited title (design flaw with the lack of feedback on why the unit isn't available, not a bug).
If you have a save from before the crash that can reproduce this, it may be helpful.
