You are playing as the sovereign. You don't even have to build cities with your essense, that's just one of your tools to defeat other Sovereigns. If you want to it should be a viable play option to never build a city. If your player character dies, you die. Why exactly is this a bad thing? You (as the Sovereign) spent your essence to build your empire. You didn't spend the essence of your 'dynasty'. Fi

I'd much rather have an option where Channelers can dei without the player losing. I never liked the idea, and feel it's unpleasant in the beta itself. The hide option just looks like a kludge to me.

Dominions3 is a bad comparison. What takes time for a Dominions3 game to host is not ai but fight resolution. Even with only human players on a big map, if you have a few battles with hundreds of soldiers lasting 50 turns, then it's long. Civ IV on the other hand is slow. As for the ai taking tuns as we do, yes it's possible that it'll be faster than us, but you have to avoid expensive algorithms.

When I kill a sovereign, two things happen: -All his cities disappear. To me that's a bug. It may be a gameplay feature, but honestly it's horrible. Show stopper. -All his units remain, and can't be attacked but keep his colors. The result is that cities disappear, and units show where cities used to be, and we can't interact with these units.
In a turn based game that should not be that much of a problem, especially since you can do a lot of computation while the player does his turn.
Unfortunately that's wrong. Play Civ (any version) on large maps on an average requirements machine and you'll see that turns take a lot of time to compute.
My favorite example is a pretty straight forward algorithm: What is the strength of an enemy in a given area compared to mine? You provide the unit in question and a radius and it returns a value based on the relative damage potential of other things in the area and from that you can decide whether to move forward or not.
In my opinion the issue is not so much the complexity to code the algorithms but the amount of time they req

It's really a good tool. Only problem I had with it was that it still took a long time linking, but the gains on pure compilation are great.

Loasing saved game. hitting new turn. Crash. Uploaded debug.err : bug report 70498 . I'm unable to add text to the bug report after hitting OK accidentally (I thought ok ment upload the file since it was on the same line, not ok send the report - my bad), so I created a new one to attach the save game too, so 70499 = 70498. Sorry but I couldn't find how to edit my own text or lack of. (and a pr

I don't know exactly what happened, but here goes: I see an enemy city with what looks like a sovereign inside. I attack and win. The battle report says I bet a city guard. At this stage, I think what I saw was not a sovereign but a guard and take the city, decide to build stuff inside, all cool and works. I order a 10-guards unit to be built and move on. Later, I see that there is a unit I do not control in the city. It's the sovereign whom I saw initially. I suspect
The reference of the three musketeers is probably made by Doumas from mount Athos itself.
No. It was the name of a real musketeer, like Portos and Aramis (actually Aramitz). I'm pretty sure ALL names mean something in some llanguage and/or are the names of some place/people somewhere, unless you pick 12 syllables names.

When I click to add a building, I'm usually given a choice of where to click with green squares. When I have added a few buildings (3), if I leave the city and come back, the squares don't appear. The building icon is not under the mouse but somewhere else, which doesn't easily relate to mouse position, and when I click 100 pixels away, a new building is built over there. I can't get to embed the image. http://www.screencast.com/users/LDiCesare/folders/Jing/media
Even if you are not encountering any obvious issues, it is vitally important that you use the latest video drivers available from your video card/chipset manufacturer (ATI/Nvidia/Intel). If you do run into a problem down the line, updating them is one of the first things you'll be asked to do if they're not reasonably recent. We really don't want to see complaints followed by debug.err files noting drivers from 2005!
Problem is NVidia's latest drivers are bugged. <

I wnat to download the demo on my week-end computer and cannot see it in Impulse. Impulse showed it, said it needed to connect and I can no longer see Elemental in the list. Is it forbidden to download from 2 computers at different places? That would suck. It's still one account and I only use one computer at a time.

I agree about keys. They shouldn't be used for movign troops but scrolling. As for production I'm not sure it's a good idea. It will depend a lot on the economics. You may or may not want to alwyas be building stuff in your cities, depending on the costs to your treasury?
