Being able to move the map by sticking the mouse to the edge of the map woud be both intuitive and useful.
While an IDE would be nice, it also is a huge amount of effort. I'd settle for good error messages - both from the script interpreter and from the code around the events.
+1. Where I work they built us an IDE and we have very bad error messages. I'd throw the IDE out the window to get understandable error messages any day. Lua over python for 2 reasons: Performance. Lua is way faster and manages memory better. Ease of integration. Lua is designed to be embedded. Python is designed to be extended. That is, lua is expected to be called from C (or C++) whereas python is not. Python is expected to call C++, not the other way round, and I don't think using boost:: python for instance is as simple as integrating lua.
Part of this was an issue of how long it takes to generate land (anyone who’s ever coded fractal code knows what I mean). It’s certainly not undoable. Civilization does it and there are some freeware tools that can do it as well. It just takes time and optimization (i.e. budget) which has been allocated for Fallen Enchantress so that we can get our roads, rivers, and randomly generated land masses.
Damn. You KNOW you don't have to use fractal algorit

A few more comments Research: Tech research and spell research are very confusing because when you choose a tech, you get it as you click it, while when you choose a spell, you get it X turns later. This is quite annoying at first. Both tech systems should behave the same, the spell manual and research system is quite unfriendly in terms of knowing what you already know. On the other hands, the spells are well described, but I haven't found anything resembling a tech tree worth checki
On a related note, I'm very dubious about the concept of 'Questing technology'. If you discover a quest that you aren't ready for, you should simply get your butt kicked when you try it, ala Master of Magic... "You see DEATH KNIGHTS guarding the ruin". The idea that you don't have the questing 'know-how' makes no fictional sense. It's just way too gamey. That whole questing tree should just be scrapped. It breaks the cohesion of the narrative and undermines the fun of exploration. Inst

Indeed combat looks like a waste. You need tons of Int to even be able to cast a spell that'll do a third of the damage a good axe would deal. There's a far too big investment in Int for the spells to be worthwhile (basically have to level a hero many times before he can become useful).

Str, Dex and Con plus a weapon and whatever you can buy later still win you the game with the sovereign single-handed.

I once suggested that the starting city hub (zmpire hub, whatever, just in the first city) would produce some gold. Because at the time (in the beta) early gold was scarce, I suggested gold, but having the hub generate 1 of each early resource (materials, food, gold) would still be useful. I remember being answered that in Starcraft this was not the case, though, so I'm not too optimistic about the team correcting this. It's micromanagement for the player and ai both.
If the solution is convert the game to 64 bit then by all means Godspeed.
Urgh. Although Iagree that fixing the crashes should be top priority, 64 bit is definitely NOT the solution. It would mean many many players, who have a 32bit OS, could no longer play the game. Come on. I'd demand a refund in such a case.
15 compared to 18 str doesn't do that much to Dmg then it used to do.
You miss the point. There is no reason why custom characters and pre-made characters shouldn't be equal in abilities. For instance if I want to play a female version of Verga, I can't. And if 3 extra points don't matter that much, then levelling up isn't that important I guess?

I come upon an adventurer. I'm on the cloth map if that matters, not sure if the 3D view shows more characters when there's a group. I see an adventurer and talk to her (right click with my sovereign), she proposes 86 gildar and will join me. I pay. I then get a message asking me whether I cancel/auto-battle/fight her. I think it's going to crash if I do anything but cancel, and I don't want to fight anyway, so I cancel. I then see some unit mov

I started a 1.1 game and founded my kingdom. I get warned when my city is idle, and get a popup: Choices are close/build/train. Why not View? I am probably going to be unable to locate the city on the map, so I can't make the choice now. I will go through close + look for the city, or build and cancel and look at the situation. Furthermore, a city has 2 separate queues, so why do I get a message when both are empty and not when only one is empty? Next I notice that my ci

I started a game in 1.1 It lasted only 20 minutes, and ended in a CTD, when clicking next turn. There was no dump in C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic. Debug.err is there: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8046784/debug.err

There are many aggressive comments in defense of the game. It's a community site, sure. Bashing people who have a CTD is not a very positive community attitude either. The 'the game is not broken it's your machine' and 'many other games are crap' and 'games can't run on all machines' arguments don't change the fact the game crashes. It doesn't change the fact that on the machines on which it crashes, many other games run fine. It is not a valid or useful argument. The useful a

The complainers expect the game to be working at this stage. I started my first 1.1 game this morning, had only 20 minutes before going to work, and it crashed. I noticed a few minor bugs before that. I'll send whatever info in a bug report to the support forum, but I haven't been able to locate a crash dump file so I'm not ery optimistic about their ability to solve the issue. The 1.09beta (should it have been 1.1beta) was for some reason unplayable by me, so from my

Interesting post. I agree with darklander0 that Intelligence should be renamed Magic under the new system. I strongly dislike the "exception" that sovereigns don't need intelligence to cast certain spells but champions do. I understand the rationale is to allow channelers to have low int and still be able to cast spells, but then I think it makes int much less
