Shrink helps a lot, so does slow. But Shrink doesn't effect fire breath or poison. So it still has a trick up its sleeve. I lose a lot of troops to fire breath... Reduce cooldown or make it used more frequently?

[quote who="parrottmath" reply="51" id="3270543"]So your major complaint after sifting through all your arguments is that the game doesn't have enough altering visuals for an imersive experience. Thus, to make this game `better' for you, would be to add more unique spells to each race. Provide different environments for each race, provide a UI that is uniquely formed for each race. Provide unique looking buildings for each factions / race in the generic game. Thus, you have a big prob

I enable nothing. I seldom buy a game I wouldn't play a lot (unless its super cheap, you know, Steam). The new XCOM was a mistaken purchase based off my friends recommendations, as I was out of the country when it came out so I didn't know much about it. I don't know why you're still trying to hack into the fact the both nation types 'play the same'. Both have the same fundamental bases. Build Pioneers, Acquire Land. Make Units, Fight other Units. But from ther

Sounds like a party pooper to me. Shitting on Starcraft because it delivered what little of it he expected it to deliver. Pro Starcraft players are celebrities. The game focuses on solid base mechanics. Its not about depth, but the lengthens you go to optimize the base mechanics. It's an overall good game but I don't like it because it uses strategy on a smaller scale. Compared to something like Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander which supports broad level strategy-strategy, even if

No love for mancer? I might write an entire post on tweaks (in-line with the current mancer) to them/Capitar since I have the day off work. But it doesn't seem to warranted at the present. That said there are some pretty silly trip ups with racial bonuses. Resoln are probably my favorite stock faction because they can amass power pretty quickly despite having lower HP. But their blood ability should probably be per person in the stack killed. And combining it with the perk

Good to know about the updates, less work for me. The star dock interface is actually really cool. Being able to still interact with the game, and keeping your little chat windows over the game while you're playing is pretty neat. Too bad I have no reason to use it over the steam version. :\

Masterwork Chain is enough for me, usually putting it on custom factions. Champion's can tank up a few select knights and heroes if necessary. Cheaper, lighter, faster, defense through tactics. Clever positioning (spec. w/ mounted troops) combined with some decent healing can create almost immortal troops. Wellspring wellspring wellspring. Keeping units light enough to escape and move in healthier units to block the aggressor works for me fairly well. Abandoning my usual 'roman styled

I laughed when I saw the 'atheistic of play' link. Over focus on aesthetics creates poor games, I like games that are mechanic heavy. I love dwarf fortress because its a game OF mechanics. I 'play' Engineering IRL because its also a game of mechanics (it's not very fun though). Anyway the races in this work very well. I was impressed with the way each race had its own unique play style. Whether or not the game has less depth than WoM I cannot say since FE is the fi

I'm not sure how you can not agree. If you can produce an axe as good as a sword for less metal, and less production, the axe is going to end up being the superior choice every time. It may be a fantasy game but some things should be kept within the ream of rationality. The weapon teirs reward good research and dedication to military technologies. What should be limiting you is strategic resources. If you have all the iron (or are willing to buy it through diplomacy) AND you can aff

Taking a Governor on a conquest (tagging along behind the main army if needed) is great when you capture an enemy town and plant him in it to counter the occupation unrest and get it up and running as soon as possible. If part of the main army he can bank up a bit of experience. With

I really have no problem taking Archery. Its not like the blessing the Capitar start with... I've even tried it with Guile, didn't turn into 6 influence, and most of the game was total war and my power rating was terrible for the first half so no one wanted to make a trade pact with me... Even with a diplomat sovereign (I figured 6 influence/caravan + Silver Tongue could be good), my trades were not worth much more than usual. The war horse is probably my favorite weapon in the game,

Wait, bows suck? Bows are probably my favorite weapon in the game. With the Tarth Archery perk, metal less bows can be unbelievably powerful on trained units. Although a reasonably poor choice for a sovereign/champion in my opinion. Also I have no problem with spears as they are now, not doing as much damage as the other weapons seems fine to me, since they do more damage against armored units. Giving them a bonus VS mounted units seems pointless considering mounted units don't trample, o

I typically use support magic, with a majority of the damage done by trained units or my main Champion who sits in my Sovereigns pocket all day, However it is mostly likely, since I don't focus on mana, that my Sov is melee. Getting the best of both worlds. I like using Water and Life, but some times I add Wind into the mix (Any of the 3 in combination depending on the race, class, or playstyle). Sometimes the champion is a spellcaster, some times its an archer. I've even had a Sov Pa

Thanks for both the replies. I tend to sit on High tax rate later in the game depending on circumstance. Especially if I have a black market in a great fortress :D sometimes the negatives the lesser cities suffer with are worth the gildar. I might drop it down when champions are well equipped and army size is comfortable to develop the outer regions. Money is like production in the bank! Too bad I've never managed to build a Treasury Vault though...

Winning, potentially losing too, when a research at the end of a branch or your 'target' research to make a pop up with no other option but "Open Research". Once open clicking done greys the button out and highlights cancel. Neither buttons do anything, or in any other of the tabs. Victory: Spell of Making. Research: Refined Arcana.

The two bonuses I'm wondering about. One (Hedigah Bathhouse) gives +1 Water Power, -30% Unrest. The other (Can't remember it's name" states "Unrest does not effect research". Is the second effect nation-wide? Because it seems lackluster. I can understand level 5 bonuses being reasonably unimportant due to the time and effort it takes to acquire them. I usually find there is no unrest in these cities, and most other cities that have an appreciable amount of research have to

I agree with Okimosy on Point 1. Having them at the top is more than enough to point out cities with no construction. But all those cities with bonuses on empty ques could clog up the top of the list later in the game. There could always be a second row for Armies/Cities/Quests so you can fit more on screen at once, negating the whole issue. I don't know if you can but I would sure like to be able to drag the icons in the list around to re-arrange them, I'll have to try later tonight.
