I'm thinking of trying that out in my next custom game. My reasoning is that decent swords make an appearance much later than hammers. Usually, when I get to chainmail I see plenty of clubs/hammers but not many swords. At the same time, later on swords actually become pretty good, and Masterwork Chain makes sense. Come to think of it, Ironeers really need some Super Plate as a racial ability. Thoughts?
First of all, I have to say that I love that spell. Cast it centered on a big bad dragon, and that dragon becomes a sitting duck for the ice staff slingers. Anyway, what I think is problematic is the fact that if a unit does not START its turn in stinking mud, it can plow through it with no problem at full movement points. Only if it begins its turn in the mud, does its speed get reduced to 1 square. The mud should prevent anyone ENTERING it from going more than one square.
Magic in this game is actually great. You just need to level up a proper mage with access to at least 3 schools of magic. Mages dominate when properly done. As for using champs, if you don't like that option you can always spawn a map with zero champs. It's just an option in the map generator.
I thought they were, but they aren't, at least not for the A.I. In my current game the A.I. Relias has an army of half a dozen shieldsmen, most of them with crippling injuries.
Mage Champs.
Fixed which way?
1. Does the city lose its population if its food production ever falls below its current population? 2. In case of the Slave Lord faction, does razing captured cities provide any benefit at all once the capital has swollen to Level 5 from all the extra slaves?
I think that some basic swords and hammers need to be introduced earlier in the tech tree, at the first weapon tech along with the spears. It might lead to more troop variety as opposed to the usual flood of spearmen.
In a random map with champion setting set to "None" will the A.I. be smart enough to avoid researching champ-related techs? I'd like to try out a no-champ game, but not if it means further crippling the A.I.
I like them as well. You can make really good monks using the speacial staff they unlock in the Warfare tree, add the robes and dodging traits and they can be really quite nice. I had some monk units that lasted the whole game, by the end they didn't really do any damage, but they were hard to kill and stopped the AI from getting to my killer mages.
Monks, eh? That's a good idea. I'm gonna give 'em a try tonight.</
That could happen as well of course. The thing is that people seem to be complaining that the A.I.'s are dogpiling against them , not against other A.I.'s. In other words they experience unfair treatment at the hands of the A.I.'s.
The problem is, that that strategy lets the leading player win. It means that all the AI's have given up on beating that lead player.
Not necessarily. Suppose that we have the Resoln in the lead with 8 cities, Magnar trailing with 5 cities and Paridan in the last place with 4 cities. Suppose Resoln decides to eliminate the Paridan and declares war. Paridan will put all of its forces against Resoln, leaving itself
It would make more sense that the AIs gang up on the most powerful nation, not the weakest.
Actually, that wouldn't make any sense at all. It is far more logical to kill the weak and use diplomacy to prevent the strong from killing you. Dogpile also makes sense: the A.I. has better odds of defeating you when you're already engaged in another war. A.I. sovereigns aren't auditioning to join the Knights of the

The OP is a hypocrite. He expects others to be sensitive to his needs while he himself is utterly ignoring the needs of others. Had he asked to ADD salted beef/fish/whatever as another food option, I doubt anyone would have had a problem with it. But no, he seeks to get what he wants and at the same time deny others what they want. Hypocrisy at its finest.
Yuo can choose to cover heads or only group with men. Salted pork is the only early healing option. The number of people who practice kosher/Halal homes outnumber the people who eat only pork by several billion to one. A wise business attemps to provide comfort to that majority of their customers when they can. This is an easy fix.
Your champs/sov also can choose not to eat pork. No other healing option
I demand a burqa or at least a headscarf on every female champ. They also should not be able to group with male champs. This is urgent. Thanks.
If you're worried about being kosher/halal, then uninstall your game. Playing a game that features magic is not kosher/halal in itself.

Gave Pariden a good try in my latest game... and I actually like them. First of all let me say that the Decalon power is downright AMAZING . Seriously. I'm not just talking about the damage, that's a given, I'm talking about all kinds of strategic utility spells such as city enchantments (Gentle Rain comes to mind). Champions. Anyway, with Decalon in mind I specialized all my early champs as Mages. Even had an Ironeer mage (wasn't my idea, but s

A few pointers... 1. Expand. Expand, expand expand. Get as many cities as possible as quickly as possible. 2. Have a plan to win. Depending on your race and play style it may be with magic, with melee heroes, or with trained units. Research techs that play into your plan, ignore techs that don't help you. 3. Specialize your cities. You will most likely need one Fortress churning out units and one Town providing food for your faction. The rest can be Conclaves drivi
