The work around is to reload the game that was saved at Chapter 4. If you are lucky, the monument will be in a different place and you can get through.

The village of Kushar has built a monument on top of the path. The path has a mountain on the other side so there is no way to get past by land. There are no beaches past Kushar so moving past by ship is not possible.
I would not complain about him wandering. The problem is that the wildland is not opened when he gets killed.
Ceresa cast Grip of Winter on one of my cities then (as expected) the Build and Train buttons disappeared from all my cities. I then persuaded her to surrender. The Grip of Winter was removed from my city but Build and Train were not restored. My current campaign has become unplayable.
Now it's happened a second time. Vetrar got loose again.
Deleted my game data and it appears that the problem has gone away. Looks like it was corrupt data causing the problem. Thanks for the suggestion.
Had been playing regularly. As I recall it happened overnight. Not playing other games. I suspect that you are correct about corrupt data. I had thought Steam had reloaded from the cloud. I'll try to delete my game data.
I've got some screen shots but have no idea on how to post them. Copy-paste does not allow pasting. Insert Image requires a URL. Where are the hoops that I have to jump through?
Reinstalled the game and the problem still persists. Happens when I start the Scenario, when I start a New Games, and even in the tactical map. The tactical map is barely visible through the smear. The smear disappears when I zoom out, but then I loose detail. At this point I've stopped playing since it's too aggravating. I don't see how a screen shot would provide useful info.
I've tried reboot and reinstalling my video driver. I's making the game unplayable. Can't see nearby features. Nearby units are hard to see.
Is there a word worse than "horrified"? You will need it if you get the Sword of the Glacier.
I'm getting a black transparent smear on my map. It stays in place when I scroll the map. Started happening yesterday.
Killed Vetrar when he was wandering outside of the wildland. Cleaned out the wildland but it did not open. Another problem is Vetrar occupies too many tiles. Hard to see what is where. Also Deadly Bite from my Silt Skath did not work even though a regular attack would.
Beastlord mage is powerful. Won at Ridiculous with Master Quest before I was able to train any normal units. Had an army of cave bears. Horses are important! Swords available from wildlands are a big help - Sword of the Glacier from Vetrar lets you cast Blizzard which can be used to destroy an enemy garrison Sunder spell kills elementals quickly.

Air elementals can fly so the capability does exist. Seems like they should be able to move at road speed everywhere, even over mountains. If they are not supposed to fly why do they have wings? How about taking away the wings and calling them dinosaurs?
I would not like the game to ding at me every single turn. That would get old very very very fast.
That's why I said "Should be an option since not needed in the early game."
According to the Foreign Relations page one enemy has -478 gildar -4 mana -34 crystal Another has -46 gildar
Please make a signal when the game is ready for the user to play the next turn. Maybe an audible ding-ding or a popup. Should be an option since not needed in the early game.
Also observed this and more than once.
Does not appear to be bug, just weird. Use it as a milk cow. It will never get an uplevel bonus so don't bother growing.
The Sacrifice spell converts population to Mana. Once you hit level 5 you can use it without penalty. Magnar had it once when I acquired him as a vassal. Also used it just before razing a city I'd captured. The Imperial wildland has the spell that converts population to hit points for your sovereign.
Wages are zero in my current game. I use the feeble mercenaries to block friendly factions from desirable locations. Used to be able to build a camp for darklings and spam the map with them. The junkyard had 3 camps.
I have a type of henchman that I call Admin. It has the Veteran attribute so when my Fortress has Command Post, I can train a Commander with Administrator I, Administrator II, and Road Building. Twice today after I had selected 'Commander', the second step only showed 'General' and did not show 'Commander'. But then the third and fourth steps did show 'Commander'. Note: I use these to reduce unrest with the side benefit o
This has just happened twice.
