How can designers think such an an ugly UI in (nearly) 2014 is good enough?Presumably they're attempting to sell their game on gameplay, not aesthetics. It's still a better UI than Dwarf Fortress after all, and few people contest that that's a good game, at least for its niche.
Isn't Dwarf Fortress free? I'm passing on Dom4 anyway, not just because the UI is ann

I was very impressed with how 'clean' Endless Space was, it was very quick to play and packed pretty much all of the pieces you expect in a space 4x. The biggest downer to me was the combat, though it was still better than some other 'non-tactical' systems. It will be interesting to see how much EL borrows from ES and how much new ground it covers.
Well, here's some info for y'all... http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GCSoqdO...%3DGCSoqdOZ0-M Sploogetastic? Maybe, maybe not. I assume if you didn't like EU these adds aren't going to change your mind about the game play. If you did like EU then yes, sploogetastic.
Still sounds like a pass for me, but hope they keep on keeping on.
Are there any regular sots2 players?
A game called Star Control that plays like MoO2 would be great.
I haven't heard about that either.
I haven't heard of you.
I also am involved in a game in a similar situation, so I cannot fathom why I would jump into another one ;) Sadly these games reach a point where it's likely impossible for them to regain a sizeable player base, so the question to a new player is do you want to hitch your wagon to a dying horse.
In edit-I have all four of the oldschool X COM games. I've always heard that the first was the best and that the other three should be disregarded. Is that not true?
There are many opinions on that question. For my 2c APOC was the best of them all. For another 2c, I cannot imagine playing any of them anymore, too slow, too boring, too stale...
It is a great game, but the burn out rate is pretty among many players. Because the micro is just god awful. Unless you stink and just get wiped out by turn 30 or so :p
Are you the author of said mods? I always enjoy chatting with the creators :) Can you give some details about what the mods strive to do? I only started playing CiV recently so I don't necessarilly feel as though I need any mods to 'improve' my experience, I'm still enjoying figuring out how everything works, and what strategies appeal to me.
I'm not that excited for this, G&K is still more than holding my interest, and the proposed new mechanics don't really sound all that necessary to me, but I guess we'll just see how they work. I'm just hopeful that they get some better naval AI, cuz... it's just like shooting fish in a barrel to defend against it at the moment. On the other hand, I kind of stopped playing maps where the AI even needs to use ships so that helps :D
I had it for a while, got a bit bored, stopped. Started again a month ago, played a couple large games through to completion enjoyed them, got bored, stopped.... It's that kind of game I think. There is a lot of new since release, but there is also a certain level beyond which it loses its appeal. Fortunately if you step away for a while, going back is fun. The mechanics and game play are very solid, so when you get a craving for them fire it
I wish them well, but SotS lore was pretty crappy in my opinion (not one shared by everyone). I think I'll pass for now.
Interesting... Is it like Wesnoth? Or more like Fire Emblem?
@Uberlicker Xenonauts has kept TU but is doing it in a more modern setting with the whole xcom vibe.
Believe me, I know, and I'm not that interested in it anymore :(
Is this game Campaigns only or is there a sandbox mode? If it's only campaigns, I'm not interested.
the 'campaigns' such as they are, are a kind of mega sand box on top of everything. Really there is no 'campaign' in the sense most people understand the term.
I got excited, XCOM! Then... XCOM '94 :( Not that that game was bad, but I have grown tired of the TU based tactical system.
There are a couple other threads about it bouncing around somewhere, but yes, it is fun, check it out :)
Already a MoO3... whether anyone wants to admit or not ;) also the game will be squares not hex. I think that's a mistake myself, but they seem to want to make it as MoM like as possible. Not really a big deal honestly, but I'm enjoying the hex games more these days.
I enjoy Prog Rock, but not enough to seriously get into it I guess. I did go through a phase where I was listening to a lot of Yes and Styx, but burned out on them eventually, while Zep and The Who remained on the play list. I can't say I was ever really a fan of Genesis (or the Police for that matter) though. Not sure why, but I never really enjoyed Peter Gabriel. I think you're right with the folkrock bit, what you mentioned probably isn'
Why not go the full off topic mile ehh? ;) I am 42, and the music of my youth was largely the Rock bands of the 60s and 70s. From those I especially enjoyed The Who and Led Zeppelin, though there are certainly other artists/groups which appealed to me. I am not much of a album collector, so if we judge my preferences off of albums (and later CDs) which I actually own, then the ranking probably goes like this The Who/Led Zeppelin (near complete
I think the Goafans issue was not your hate of RTS games, rather how it is completely unrelated to the topic of this thread. At least i fail to see what your gaming preferences mean in a bigger picture of possible demise of the RTS genre.
He'd have to answer that, but reread his posts, I don't think that was really his concern. In any case, my reply was on topic. I wa
