I've always enjoyed TBS over RTS, but excellent RTS games like Starcraft I/II, Dune, Warcraft, etc... are fantastic games and it is foolish to overlook them. That doesn't really have anything to do with where it is now, but it clearly was a major F up on the part of Kerb, and yes, Mecron admitted as much. Now to your more general po
Well, I was hoping SotS][ would be more like prime than it is. As it turned out, I can't be bothered to even try ][, just too many changes from a system I really enjoyed, and I don't see the benefit in actually learning it, as it came out in such a poor state to begin with. Maybe once the expansions are done I'll take another look at it as a 'finished' product. Kinda what I'm doing with Civ5 as well. Sad that th
That doesn't meant there isn't strategy involved. And again, why the strong word of hate? I'd reserve that for a game that almost offends what your definition of a game should be, like a horse riding game or something. If you like strategy I don't see why you wouldn't at least respect some RTS games, even if their style isn't really your thing.
What does there being strategy involved have to do with an
I just find it strange. I mean Total War is probably the most successful TBS series behind Civ, and you have RTS elements in that. And while I understand that some of them can be too fast past or just feel like a management simulator (I couldn't get into Wargames: European Escalation because it was just all tactics to me), I don't really see them as being that different. If you like TBS games but have never ever played an RTS game yo
What hate are you all moaning about? I may hate RTS games, but that doesn't mean I can't recognize that some of them are very well executed. I just hate them, they are not fun for me to play and I find the mechanics in most of them to be tedious and repetitive. Same as playing FPSs honestly, not my cup of tea. Again, that's no comment on their actual merits, just that I hate them. The same way I hate eggplant, e
I know, I didn't like it those games either, but the effect wasn't that large for the lower tier units, they were just a different type of archer. The balloons were just kind of cheesy I thought. Though really it's just that I don't much care for the mixing of SP with fantasy in general. If the mechanics are good, and the game plays well it won't bother me much though.
Oh, indeed, for those who like SP elements I'm sure it will be a great addition to the game. for me... not saying it would be enough for me to not buy it, but if the rest of the mechanics is some kind of rehash of SM then I will probably skip it. I've got enough sense to not waste my time or money on stuff which doesn't give me what I want ;)
Oh my goddess I'm all giddy. AoW did so many things right and in such an elegantly simple way. Different races, sieges, ships, a steampunk-like faction (from what I see), beautiful map, gaaaaawd!
I can totally live without any steampunk nonsense in my fantasy games thank you very much ;) We'll see though, I refuse to get excited about these things until we actually can see how the mechanics work and how they have chosen to
I hope so, I hate RTS! MOAR TBS!!!! :D
I am one of those who felt that AoW was great, and all the sequels just continued to get worse. They weren't bad, just worse than the 1st. The campaign in SM was really not my cup of tea either, and the AI was simply poor. Which isn't a surprise, few AIs in games like that were/are any good. I'll be interested to see how 3 turns out though. I did like the mechanics of the series, just the execution failed in a few are
Hope it turns out well for them. SM was pretty crappy as far as SP went. I know there are MP fans of it though.

I've always thought that "Sins of a Solar Empire" was a fantastic of a name for any game, book, etc as I have ever heard. Never played it though. So no matter how cool I thought the name was, I have never played the game. That's pretty much the point. Great names won&#

I'm not backing the game because I don't think I'd enjoy playing it. Hopefully enough people who will enjoy playing it pledge enough to get them to their goals though.

Is this wild man SP or MP? Also, bah to RTS :p
Uggg.... Too many projects.... How do you people keep up with all of this??? :D
I mean, Distant Worlds essentially has that feature too, but it doesn't detract from what is otherwise a brilliant 4X grand strategy game.
Meh... I did not care for DW at all. Oh well. To each their own :D
Kind of confused... Are there two games? The gog game looks nothing like the screens from the other one?
Well I finally had time to DL the thing and check it out :D Seems promising, though I'm a bit put off by the early economy since getting enough scrolls of wisdom or portal (or whatever they call it) is a bit of a hassle apparently. I guess you can just sell unIDed stuff you're not going to use anyway, which is what I do, but the inventory feels small, and the inability to easily go back to sell 'junk' makes me sad. I will hav
I think Torin was just refering to fleet management though, but no matter :D I also think I would enjoy the new fleet system, if only because I like variety, and Kerb has always impressed me with their implementations of various mechanics. So it should not just work, it should work well ;) That said... the rest of what they did with SotS2 hasn't really drawn my attention so much. I'm sure it works, and I'm sure it's wel

What? The 1st Karataka could be won using only 2 keys. I know, I did it multiple times. Move forward and high kick. (probably other combos too, but that's the one I did since I liked it when the birds or whatever they were flew into your crotch when you kicked high... yah, I was 12 or something back then...) I have no idea what the new Karataka is supposed to be like, but I cannot see h
