Not playing it. Would be interested in hearing why anyone is playing it.

Let's see... 1. Might and Magic Duel of Champions This may or may qualify depending on how you want to define strategy. It is a CCG, but it's the best CCG I have played in a long while. Though it does suffer from some balance issues at the top levels, I've not found too many issues in the low to mid ranks. It's free, though obviously, if you do pay you will get cards more quickly. Ignore most of the rants about how b
Had a chance to play it today, doesn't seem nearly as polished as you guys made me think. Lots of buttons with "WIP"-signs, lots of tooltips that don't make sense, game crashes after 35-40 turns. This isn't even playable compared to how good Endless Space and Dungeon of the Endless worked pre-release.
Weird, unless they changed stuff since the last patch I have not noticed any buttons with WIP si
I have tried endless legend a few times now. The interface used is quite full on, it is difficult to understand what is going on. The design choices are odd, e.g., dialogs that look like error messages when they are infact giving you options. ONce again the characters don't appear to be under your full control, you try to move them into a certain hex and they won't, but also you get no feedback as to why. <br
Right now the troops act quite silly and often act suicidal so it makes it hard to keep your units alive and have them reach high experience level, they usually go MIA before they reach level 3. It has some interesting potential though, I am not against the 'partially out of your control concept''. It is also arguably more realistic, A general gives orders to their troop, it does not mind control

I love threatening to rape bottoms on the interwebz!

I know it affects me, but being aware that it affects me allows me to 'get over it' more quickly, usually before bed time :) However, this is only for multiplayer stuff, I have never gotten angry about single player (other than bugs, but that's a different kind of frustration). When I get on a bad run in FUMBBL, I usually do have to just stop for a bit and do something else to clear my head. But, again, knowing this makes it easy to manage.

lol... 4 years later Elana answers your question :) I recently tried Might and Magic Duel of Champions, which is a F2P CCG, though some of the community feels the latest patch changed the economy too far away from F2P. They may be right, but meh, I'm still enjoying it, though it helps if you don't really worry about being able to compete at the highest levels and prefer just trying to accumulate a collection and make the best deck wi

Yeah... I might break my 'never buy on release' rule for this one. Endless Space was great I thought, though it did suffer a bit with replayability, but mechanically I thought it was exceptionally well done (other than no HOT KEYS!!!). Endless Legend really looks like they have taken the fantasy 4X and added a bunch of interesting mechanics to it, some obviously 'borrowed' from ES, but so what, if it works well why change it?
I skipped CIV V after loving CIV IV to death, so I am on the fence here
I did the same initially. I finally picked up CiV and G&K when steam had them 90% off or something equally hard to pass up, and I have to say, I quite enjoy it. Is it better than IV? That's really up to each individual, but it is good. BNW just made it better I think, though I don't have nearly as much t
So the game has to be tuned to find the right balance after release. Wow, now that's news for a TBS game.
That's really not the point I think. Sure there will be patches and add ons, but if the basic game mechanics do not appeal then it's unlikely those will make a difference to those of us who wanted something different. So yes, AoW3 is what it is, if it appeals to you great, I ho

I guess I don't see how the class system really adds that much depth, at least relative to other games of this sort. It may add more depth compared to AoW:SM, but I don't think that's really saying a whole lot. In the end there just are not that many interesting options for developing your leader. Yes each class gets to pick different skills/spells/whatever, but meh, from what I've seen it doesn't affect the actual game p

Different strokes. I did not like AoW2 or SM, they were both incredibly boring to me. Map makers and MP aside, the core mechanics of the games didn't offer enough to keep my interest. I don't see that III has improved on those aspects. There is the 'shiny and new' feeling that covers up a lot of flaws, but after a bit those flaws start to stand out as you can only restart so many games before you realize the winning mechanics simp

From the Let's Plays and various forums I've seen this game simply looks boring. City spam, check. Unit spam, check. Uninteresting development paths, check. Tedious moving forces from the back to the front, check. Underwhelming AI, check. (this last one is kind of unfair, as the AI doesn't seem worse than in other games of this type, but it doesn't seem to be any better either) I mean it has it's positives, if you

It's not really anything like the CiV engine other than purely cosmetically. Most importantly you have tactical battles, and whatever they are doing with the adjacent hexes joining in thing. However, AoW2 and AoW:SM were both very meh in my opinion. I get there are a lot of fans of them, well more SM than 2, but still, they kind of just threw a ton of junk in and it made for a messy and ultimately uninteresting experience to me.

198 Replies 902,886 Views

I'm a little more optimistic than you are Valpheus, but considering just how terrible I found AoW2 and SM to be I will have to wait on this one and see some lets plays or demos or something.

Not sure if I polled this place in the past or not, but if you are already a FUMBBLer let me know. If you're not, and you like Blood Bowl (not Cyanide garbage) then check out fumbbl.com Heck, check it out even if you don't like Blood Bowl, or if you don't even know what Blood Bowl is :) Fine community with tons of leagues and a couple open divisions.

THAT'S XCOM BABY!!!!! Actually though learning to manage the activations is critical. As you gain more understanding of just how critical high cover is these incidents will decrease in regularity. Early game is mostly about figuring out your best use of grenades or rockets. Use them to blast cover so the rest of your squad can kill things. Thin Men are indeed a PITA, but you just need to learn their tricks an

I thought the tutorial covered most of the basics in as much as how the tactical system works, but I admit I played it once when the game came out and could have forgotten. The tradeoffs on the foundry/production... I dunno, I don't think any of that is that critical, until you want to play on impossible. Even on classic it's not that hard to get through the game without losing a single nation. Not that that ma
