(or flavour, but thats just a part of the flavour that I imagine differently in a mere moment). The fact that I got new research in earth magic, which blocks my spellbook from researching fire spells (called chaos in MoM, but you get the idea). was annoyin

lol nice post Mastroego I remember Alpha centauri's tech tree, but even so just looking at it visually gives me a headache from all the possibilities xD Another version to the random tech could be the approach from alpha centauri with "Blind Research".. I actually pretty much liked that feature from alpha centauri, because I never felt screwed over when choosing a playstyle, because I was never "not able" to build something, it just might take a loong time before my researche
Your browser example doesn't really work since most websites are smaller than your native resolution and also there are scrollbars for when things go off the page. I can't think of any games that had this feature, and I am a game developer, so unless I am missing some obvious counter-examples, I think those points are the reason why. The robe you found; random... etc. Whats wrong with throwing some techs in there?
The whole game is not random, its not random how many troops you build in each squadron, its not random how long it takes you to build those same troops, neither is it random how fast you research
This randomness in the quests is pretty good I think. Imagine they were all always the same. It would be boring. This randomness makes them a tad more interesting. I especially like that tempel quest where occasionally 10 golems spawn above.
I dont think its randomness that's the problem, but a quest that lacks some... description as to what the hell is happening around.
I think Bellack proposes the safest way to success... You get your 'standard tech tree', that covers all the angles of the game, so that all features are covered, and then you have a collection of random techs (only some are drawn at the start of each game, but you can perhaps unlock more with epic quest or whatever) that are added to the tree. They can even be 'grafted' at different places (that still make sense) depending of the g
I would not randomize the entire tree, but I have no problems with a champion unlocking a new tech or a quest unlocking a new tech or a faction have a unique branch, or having some of the branches offering random choices to start a game (i.e. Book of Fire, Book of Frost, Book of Wind, etc.)
Id much rather have the book of fire, book of earth etc. and any "random ish" techs be faction specific. Civ4 doled out special rewards to factions for being the first to get a specific technology, like founding a new religion for example. The effect seems somewhat subtle at first but it is fun. Of course Civ4's relatively wide branching tech tree forced a little more decision making over FE.
Isnt that what world wonders is? a tech race? :S I never understo

Well Alaknebs have a point that it would help players if they could have the game magnify the text size to they're own liking. Its pretty common to have poor eyes, or just want to read bigger letters, I can even do that in my browser by magnifying the whole site I am looking at. Sincerely ~ Kongdej

I think to help anyone sort out your problems, computer specs and meaby a save of the map would be better :D The map sounds interesting though, are you sure its not your audio card in your computer? (have you tried running some heavy-duty something in the background and listen to a youtube clip or something, to see if its the game or a general thing). Just suggesting because if it is a bug, its worth squashing :D Sincerely ~ Kongdej
I don't like the tech tree's being divided into War, Civil, and Magic. Because we need all three to actually function. I would prefer different tech trees that could function independently of each other. Very different in concept. Meaning I could actually go down one path and not touch the other two and be able to compete, build interesting and powerful armies, have new magic gear and spells, and build interesti

I just think there should be more viable ways to counter the maul effect, if the gameplan is go big- or go home, (which sounds intersting) alot of these modules which is devastating, just needs one or two ways to counter them. Also more modules like "Maul" to be devastating would help the mood if maul needs to be so powerfull. Sincerely ~ Kongdej

I personally am not a fan of random technology, because I like to plan out my gameplan, and design a faction around that gameplan. But I will listen to all your other ideas!! I dont think the problem with the quest is the difficulty, but the lack of explaining why you enter the second combat... And learning curve... I still think the game should support giving an easier time to newer players, thats why I would remodule Maul abit, because the AI is too "dumb" to use it properly and the monsters who have it does not have too high accuracy... But I still think maul is underrated by game terms and should be changed a bit, I am not saying:

Hero hiring costs: Its because some buildings lower the hire cost of champions, so when lord relias have a bonus to 100% reduced cost, and another building reduces it by an additional 25% the final number becomes negative. They probably should restrict the number from being negative. That part is a "known" bug, it have been said before anyways, so waiting for a fix xD. The first part with all the other bugs are very interesting though, and next time it would be nice if
