Seems interesting. I hope they bring Dynasties back, but this may just be a left over from WoM.

Not sure, 13, 12, or 2.
[quote who="mqpiffle" reply="30" id="3073872"] Quoting seanw3, reply 29Magic section 2 There will almost certainly be more magic put in the meager books we currently have. Were you suggesting that all spells should be researched? That would reward researchers with too many spells compared to warfare and Magic Tree purists. Adding maybe 50 new spells to the tree by release is a must in my book. There are so many unrealized spellbooks to be made. Exactly.
Psionics is really a silly concept when you are trying to apply it to humans in reality. How are you going to use psionics with the use of machines? There are, to my knowledge, no machines that are going to warp physics to give people some sort of psychic powers. I would really like any evidence proving otherwise.
This is a neat post, and I didn't realize you had such limited design control.
I love reading these posts, especially posts by the OP whom I have grown to respect for his great analytical skills. I have yet to play the beta, so I can't comment, but if they include anything contained in any of these well thought out and concluded posts I am excited.
Thanks for writing this essay on the state of FE, haha. It discourages me though because it seems the game is only mediocre in it's current state and it seems that there are a lot of these that are saying the same thing. The only hope is that the devs will take these to heart and make the game better before release, otherwise it is going to be another WoM fiasco.
RTS a prerequisite building system is optimal because of the fast paced nature of the game, and then the research system is for TBS. It is all a pacing feature that allows for specialization of game play. Logically civilizations don't start with the ability to make advanced structures. It's not like the cavemen were toting AKs because they had the ability to make gunpowder and gun steel. People don't automatically start out with knowledge, you have to
I thought this was standard for any 4X game. When I get a sprawling empire it is really nice to know when city 17 and 1 are finished building their barracks so I can set up another queue.
I demand dark elves! I want to play as Dumners. Haha, I am just messing with you. Sounds like some awesome factions.
I just hope this game isn't going to be bland because I have been reading a lot of posts and it seems like it is that way so far. WoM with better mechanics....
I don't see how people can say that dynasties doesn't 'fit'? We are playing a high fantasy game and anyone who has read a high fantasy novel knows that there are a few important things: Heros, Villians, Dragons, Royal Families.
[quote who="Dreadcough" reply="28" id="3067170"]i'm not sure i've said anything about liking slow and boring pace, i think i mentioned that the early game might get less boring and repetitive with differences in tactical maps etc. i do however believe that the biggest possible market for a game like this is in the hardcore audience, not the "i like to costumize different kinds of hats for my hero" audience. i think it's a good thing though that there are other people wh
Someone mention Crusaders a few posts back and I love that game even though it was almost so complicated I couldn't get into it. I think a system like that should be implemented, but not as deep as that system. Just a system where you can create dynastic bonds with other empires, possibly something like a dowry system, and things like that. Add flavor to the game, because I have read a few posts that the game is slow and starts to lull.
:( Why not all of 2010?
I would love to see dynasties come back, because it would add another level or strategy and gameplay. Dynasties were a huge selling point of WoM for me, and people complaining about making the game more simple we are playing a 4X strategy game not an FPS... Why would you make a TBS more streamlined and dumbed down? That is just a silly statement.
So I haven't got to play the beta yet but I was wondering about micromanaging. I had seen a lot of people suggesting taking out some of the micromanagement elements of the game but it is a 4X game and that is what it is about, the macromanagement of your empire as a whole but the micromanagement of cities to specialize them for army or tech production, in my opinion. I don't want to play a streamlined game that has been simplified down to the basics, I mean if that was
I don't think I can wait a week for the staggered launch. I am sad to hear about the cities though, and I really hope they get to where you can specialize.
I have to agree with the OP here, and I am not going to write a book explaining why as it has already been said 10 times. The truth is that to make a game good you pretty much have to have MP now-a-days. I played Civ 4 for ages without MP and then when I discovered MP in the game I got addicted to the game all over again. It is what you do after you have played all of the factions and exhausted the fun out of the AI. It adds another element and should still be there and shouldn't have to
[quote who="Blackmantle_" reply="8" id="3059005"]Has a nice feel to it. Can't say excellent yet since it still shows its a beta and rough around the edges here and there (crashing in Main-Menu, one really long lag right before an Ebenwolf tries to eat my champion while being able to click other things giving me a short impression of a lock up which luckily didn't materialize). But I'm into playtests and games which are still rough around the edges. So I'm all for it
I completely understand devoting resources to FE to make the game good, I was just concerned that if I ever wanted to play multiplayer that I would have to buy an expansion which would be very sad.
So we are going to have to buy an expansion to get multiplayer? Seems kind of like a cheap way to make money off people who already stuck around this long or am I just reading the OP wrong?
Someone is sadly mistaken if they think Ron Paul has a chance. I am thinking of picking up a copy of this and playing, but I don't know if I want to spend the money a month to keep an active membership.
I love X-Com, and I just got my hands on a copy of Jagged Alliance 2 gold. I love the mix of tactical and turn based, those games are amazing examples of how a good turn-based strategy game should be.
I just hope they fix the engine problems so I can play the graphical version of the game. Even if you looks too cartoony, and not in the good way like Zelda: Windwaker Cel shaded graphics cartoony.
