L5 Mobility - Call of the Titans A unstoppable spell that gathers ALL friendly unstationed troops and lets you target them directly into enemy territory.
Am I reading it wrong or it is teleport-into-enemy-land spell? If so, that sounds like very bad idea. And theres strong opposition to any teleport spells at all, and they actually make sense sometimes.
Note that the threads are only accessing the map as read-only, they are doing background analysis
Yeah, generally its not complicated if you omit the fact that map actually changes during analysis, and technically, it can cause errors. While haskell part was obviously a joke, using STM would still let you not care about player's actions while processing map.
Why do games (including Elemental v1.0 and other major strategy games of 2010) not use multithreaded AI? Debugging. If multiple things are touching bits of memory, modifying variables, creating or deleting objects it can be a real pain to coordinate. The bigger the team, ironically, the harder it is to do.
That just screams 'Haskell!' and transactional memory :P

Actually, SD could support linux in cost-effective way - via wine. Their games run there already, just with some bugs here and there. It should not take much effort to fix these.
Why is buy in quotes? If they take your money for something, then you bought something...
Because I consider 'buying' as 'asquiring ownership rights'. And according to word and spirit of copyright laws, you do NOT asquire any ownership rights over IP in question. So you say you 'buy' data. But data IS said IP. And its obvious from DMCA and other copyright laws that you hold no ownership over said data. It solely belongs to 'respective owners', and they simply l
You actually SUPPORT such a DRM!?
Well, obviously, I'm just stating that anyone who has at least some bits of brains in his head should've figured by now that this strategy is the only one which works. All these starforces, securoms, goo's, steamworks etc are not going to work, they will just annoy legitimate customers. If someone wants to protect his assets from pirates, he should not place these assets on the disk or into DD. And only way to provide game but not provi
Is that to say, it is now more difficult to pirate the game?
Yeah, its so much more difficult that games are pirated BEFORE release date now :P Just look at TPB, you will easily find ANY released game there. Its _IMPOSSIBLE_ to protect software that is installed client-side. I have no idea why didn't Big Guys figure this simple fact yet. Its one of the basic properties of information. Only real solution is to keep some code server-side and provid

* City building on global map. I'd love to have some 'wall' buildings or other cheap defensive stuff to fill gaps tho. * Unit designer. Well, it sucks right now, but its good that its there as feature. Being able to 'design' minor races from diplomacy tree would be great. Plus it should consider local population composition. It does not make much sense to be able recruit humans from fallen city and vise versa. * Terrain modification spells. They are buggy, but still good to ha
I am currently sweating my way through the microscopic text

What strikes me as particularly bizarre is that during the tutorial, in which, obviously, nothing happens, I never get more than 6 fps
Yep, thats exactly why SE IV is way better than SE V. It has some bugs too, like integer overflows in some places, but overall it is very stable since its sprites-based instead of 3D.

Each time I started new game on huge, I always had one enemy (usually empire) right next to me. So my typical strategy, which lets me win even on ridiculous with ease is to smash this enemy early in the game. Research party ASAP, build 3x peasants and capture its cities. This way you will secure another food source, 2 gold mines, and usually additional library for yourself. Plus, next enemy is further away, and will not come close as fast.

I dunno, I've tried to get into it several times, but each time some kind of bug interrupted the process. SE IV is my favorite of the series for now, I've played it more than any other space 4X.

Once you replace 'selling product' with 'giving out permissions for a price', it all comes to senses. They are NOT selling you anything according to the laws worldwide. So as long as IP holders can write 'AS IS' in EULAs and get away with it, we will receive crap in a box.

AoW:SM is sprites-based, and you can see sells stats on Impulse yourself, I'm sure they are good enough for such old game :P Whenever I see franchise moving to 3D, I always think that

I dont understand this whole 'Civ revolutions' stuff people throwing at them. 'Simplified'? When did you play Civ I/II/III last time? Launch any of them and count mechanics and their depth one by one, then compare to Civ 5. Each feels more polished and deep than it was in previous series (omitting 4, because I didn't play it), and only thing lacking in Civ5 is government type, which is replaced by superior social policies system. Happiness and empire growth is not an issue either if y
