Couple hours? You're kidding? What am I doing wrong?? I am at least 12 hours in and my original city is only on the cusp of level 5. Of course, ever game is different--depending on a myriad of factors---I work 40-50 hours a week, probably get 25-30 hours of game play/2 games complete a week---so I don't blow off work responsibilities---by "couple" you mean 2? It takes me about 6 to get into the level 3/let's start kickin ass phase---regardless of difficulty level. The g

Nice! How long did it take you to get to that point? I need to actually track the time I spend on a given game. Maybe there is a time log somewhere that I haven't seen. Do you experience many crashes at that level?
Anyway, just checking if anyone else has run into something like this.
Yup. I feel your pain. Same thing for me. I kept checking the stats b/c I thought I was nuts. Achilles might have a point [e digicons]:(O[/e] I've been using melee weapons/units to get around it.
I'm just glad magical resist is there, even if it is flawed and needs more appropriate use and better balancing. Good point--I'll buy that. I'm sure it will balance out. As it is, I just use different tactics to get around it.
NPC stands for non player character. You can recruit them if you have the money. Lol. I had to look again with my glasses on. It looked like NFC & I thought it was different from NPC because I couldn't hire them. I had over 9K in gildar so I didn't think it was a salary issue. I guess I wasn't entirely clear. White Elk picked up on that it was a Champion that I couldn't hire. I also know now NOT to kill them. Kinda like getting a bad rep for breakin
often it is only the leader that is recruitable.
I have found that often to be the case. In my current game, however, I was lucky enough to recruit a stack of 4 NPC's all with great stats. Probably a one time thing--I won't get used to it.
For most games, I usually start with the campaign.
The SB is the best really---it was my understanding that the campaign was an extensive tutorial whereas the SB gives you all the facets of elemental. of course, I might be mistaken. Anybody else care to weigh in?

The Zulu’s were not a *peasant* army they were a well trained military army, a military army. From your post: Yup. Like the Samurai, the Spartans, etc. The original question was interesting enough but there are so many variables present given ANY battle---Masada, Charge of the light Brigade, the Alamo, the French v. Vietnamese, Russia v Afghanistan, Rome v. a dozen inferior Opfor yet victory achieved in the midst of seemingly insuperable odds. Again--back to the
The historical reality is that the peasents would fight a guerilla type war, i.e. as in Robin Hood & the hundreds of other historical examples, and do everything in their power to avoid face-to-face battle with veteran troops ... instead an ambush & retreat approach against smaller units would be appropriate.
Exactly!
You are a channeler. You are the lord and master of the pure magical elements. Fire to melt a man's flesh off his bones. Water to call tsunamis and level cities. Earth to crack the land and send armies tumbling into great crevasses. Air to summon tornadoes to tear apart cities and show your domination over the skies. You are near godhood. You can take on entire armies by yourself, smash titans back into the ground, slaughter the Fallen like lambs...
I won

Just a few questions... What are NFC's exactly? I could not recruit and therefore ignored. One attacked me--I battled/killed then a message appeared "Murder on the plains" Apparently I committed some egregious act though I couldn't determine the exact consequences of the act--but if I am not the aggressor--how is that murder? A few turns later all my subsequent progeny from dynastic marriages chose to align with the other faction just as they grew up [e digicons]X|[/e

The technology for crystal is under the magic section of the tech tree. I don't recall the exact progression at the moment. It is, however, relatively easy to research. It should not take you long. As for the iron mines--just to clarify--do you have one in sight that you can build your city next to? Iron is a resource that has to be harvested. You are playing the beta, correct?
Any of you having issue with enemy units becoming invulnerable? 100% spell resist and 0 damage from attacks? I mean they guys have a defense of 4 vs attack 20+ and I can't damage them.
YES! Though I can usually kill by melee---just takes more time--trying to figure out at what INT level or otherwise I need to make a magical dent.
If they have an option that perhaps is a checkbox in the game difficulty setting, to start with resources, or to start without resources, I would be cool with that. Then it would please both crowds, the ones that want to forage for their starting location, and those that want it given to them.
Yes, that sounds like a good solution. You don't think that the game has resources sufficiently strewn about at this point?
My suggestion: do MoM 2 yourself.
LOL. I have to admit I feel like I have missed out on a great experience--the game is referenced so much and seems revered. I have never played MoM....greatest thing since the invention of boobs?? Wow--maybe I did miss out!

I cannot attest to the 186 crash--mine are just random-- but I have only had Janusk not appear once. 3. Monsters do not seem too powerful but more so plentiful from my experience. My cities, as Frogboy suggested in earlier post, are well defended. I found that out the hard way. As a result, my games have been longer because it takes longer to go on the offensive. 4. Haven't used the magical barrier yet 5. Charisma for my sovereign seems to have lowered the price of rec

Yeah, I see the same thing. I have been experimenting with the spell specialty system--trying to see which spells are the most effective under which branch of study. I'm not crazy about Tiberonmagnus' idea of starting in a random spot. Random as in potentially nothing in the immediate area? I spend enough time in the beginning trying to keep my empire in the black and expanding. I assume I will not have the best starting position resource but i like have a little something to build on. Yes and no. I am only into the 2nd game since beta launch. The first game I was attacked like crazy---not so much around turn 25 but certainly before 100. I lost one city before I got a handle on the problem. This second game my cities have only been attacked once or twice by monsters. Maybe it's random? I wonder if monsters are attracted more by cities that are not well defended? they continued to attack in the 1st game even after I was stacked---which kinda became a near waste of time becau

I am enjoying the beta so far but there is one thing nagging me at this point: Resit. What is it? How is it derived? Is it only attainable by the OpFor? It's only frustrating because level one grunts are resisting damage to arrows, fire/air spells, and catapults. they can be killed via melee but the battles imo are necessarily extended. I'm about 300 seasons into 2nd game and I just finished a battle with Tarth. Irane was in this particular battle and I
