Beta questions

Just a few questions...

  • What are NFC's exactly? I could not recruit and therefore ignored. One attacked me--I battled/killed then a message appeared "Murder on the plains" Apparently I committed some egregious act though I couldn't determine the exact consequences of the act--but if I am not the aggressor--how is that murder?
  • A few turns later all my subsequent progeny from dynastic marriages chose to align with the other faction just as they grew up X| Was that a result of the "murder" i wonder?
  • Has anyone seen the confusion spell? I've yet to see it. Just curious--it was a favorite.
  • It seemed at first that city spam might have been addressed but in my current game not so much. I could/could not build more cities. I have the resources; however, I have found that if my territory isn't contiguous---some faction will weasel their way into my territory. It is beyond me how they are simply not culturally enveloped--but I'm starting to digress. It seems now that city spam is a necessary evil in order to avoid annoying encroachment by other factions.

Thoughts?

NPC stands for non player character.  You can recruit them if you have the money.

City Spam should always be a strategy but it shouldn't be the dominant one.

Right now, there's just too much advantage to having multiple production centers.  We're working on this balance.

Not all NPC's can be recruited.  In v1.09n, when the NPC's are stacked, often it is only the leader that is recruitable.  The others are tagged as Champions.  The Champs are not recruitable, and once thier leader has been recuited, they can attack and be attacked by the players.

I'm glad to read that.  I enjoy empire building.  It is a major reason I play 4x TBS.  I would not want to see empire building taken away.  Balancing against the ICS strat isn't easy, but it is well worth the work!  Thanks for taking the balance approach vs castration.

I have found that often to be the case. In my current game, however, I was lucky enough to recruit a stack of 4 NPC's all with great stats. Probably a one time thing--I won't get used to it.

That's very interesting.  I'll keep an eye out for that with regards to NPCs.

Lol. I had to look again with my glasses on. It looked like NFC & I thought it was different from NPC because I couldn't hire them. I had over 9K in gildar so I didn't  think it was a salary issue. I guess I wasn't entirely clear. White Elk picked up on that it was a Champion that I couldn't hire. I also know now NOT to kill them. Kinda like getting a bad rep for breaking treaties in Civ?

I didn't realize that--good to know. I find that it does have it's uses. This is my first beta experience and it's been awesome so far. I look forward to the game's progression. thanks for the response!
