You can have some fun now, or a lot more fun later.
Why 'or'? Can't you have both? :) For me, i feel the 50 bucks were well-spent. I'm playing the game constantly since release. I'm not blind to it's flaws, but somehow i am enjoying it even despite them. Agree that the game will definitely be a lot better in a couple months tho. It feels very bare-bones atm. Everything that you need to play it is in, but there could be (and will be, i'm sure) so much more.

I am pretty sure the number of counter-attacks is the same as the number of attacks that unit would have if it was its turn. You can even watch its action-point bar decrease by 1 for each counter-attack it does(during other side's turn). When it runs dry, no more counterattacks.

You dont group them, you build them already grouped. Individually built units cannot be grouped later. Look for the white square buttons on the unit building interface, the right ones allow you to select the experience level of the unit(veteran, elite etc.) and the left ones the number of individual units in squad(one, four, etc.)

If you give away daughters, they will eventually have kids(your grandkids). Upon reaching maturity, grandkids choose whether to side with their father's or their mother's faction. When they choose the latter, you will receive them as units. Also, you can have magic-wielding champions without ever giving up any essence on your sovereign. To do so, research adventuring that unlocks level 2 quests asap. The 'filthy warlock' one rewards you with a potion that gives 0.5 essence. Give that

To the OP: i suggest you visit this thread https://forums.elementalgame.com/396119 and watch the video. Soren Johnson(AI programmer for CIV series) explains there (among other things) that there are various types of players. Some of them play for the challenge - the competitive type. For them, a game that does not put up a difficult fight is meaningless. They see no point in playing if they can just rush the AI and win everytime. Then there is the player who doesn't care about

The normal game does not really generate random maps. When you choose large, theres only a couple of possible landmasses you can get, only the resources and starting positions are randomized. I highly suggest you take a look at this: https://forums.elementalgame.com/395529 It's a true random map generator for elemental. Currently i am playing with 4 opponents on a really huge landmass - turn almost 200 and i have contact wi
Theory and practice are two different things. In all of my games, the books that I have found are all +1 charisma and extra experience. I have found tons of charisma books, and many experience books, (and a few potions that raised essence,) but never a single book that raised any combat attributes.
Like i said, i had an extremely powerful hero in a real game thanks to books, so it's not theory. Maybe its because i play larger maps. If you control a large area when you d
a hero would have to be level 45 to compete against a similarly equipped 4-man party.
You forgot something. Unlike normal troops, a hero can gain stats from reading books that he can find in ruins. Theoretically, he can read an unlimited number of books bringing his stats to very high numbers. Once i was playing a sovereign who i designed as a non-spellcaster(no spellbooks at start, all physical stats maxed). He did nothing but clean dungeons the whole game, end
There's a max on children, right? Like 4 or something?
The sovereign and his wife can only have 4 children, but those can marry too and have children, and so on. So the number of heroes you can get is technically unlimited.
I will agree that a tutorial would have been nice. It took me a bit to figure out the food system, and I'm still not sure I've mastered it. I look forward to reading how much adding huts comes into play. Also have yet to try a campaign because I'm just getting my feet wet (probably 6 hours of gameplay thus far).
You got it backwards :) Campaign is a kind-of tutorial to the game, sandbox mode is the real thing. Food system is simple: Food is a global resource.
Between a few soldiers to hold off the hordes...
If there are hordes of enemies, there are hordes of cash to be had. Get a decent army together, kill them, and become rich. It's not unheard of to get 600+ gold after wining some battles. Note however that there is a bug currently that causes you to get zero cash after a won battle if the battle was initiated by the enemy AND fought in tactical(i.e. no autoresolve). Either make sure you hit them first, or use auto
So with all this Elemental attention in hand, does this mean Demigod is Dead? All the same questions and all the same requests are being asked here for Elemental as they were for Demigod, but Demigod has still not been finished and all the advertised features have not been implemented!
I believe demigod isn't developed by Stardock, so them working on elemental has no effect on whether demigod is or isn't dead.

After the caravan arrived in the destination city and created a road, it should disappear(or rather, become that little trader which then moves back and forth on the road). If it did not, its a bug. The little trader has two effects: It provides a % bonus to food production in both connected cities(so it makes sense for at least one of them being a food-producing center), and it levels up the road(i'm not sure what the difference between level 1 and 2 roads is tho). Its all automatic, you don

There seems to be a mix-up in the kingdom adventuring research line that unlocks quests/goodie huts - researching exploration spawns level 2 quest locations and raises your questing level to 2(you can immediately do those quests) - researching the follow-up, ancient lore, raises your notables level to 2, but the notable locations it spawns are level 3(you cant visit them) - researching another step, ruin delving, finally spawns level 2 notable locations(amongst other t

I believe the kingdom teleport spell is currently not working as intended. Reason being, there is another teleport spell, called 'teleport friends', which is a level 5 or so spell and casting it is three times as expensive, yet does exact same thing as the teleport spell kingdom starts with. Thus i think the first teleport was meant to only teleport the caster of the spell, and not the whole army that is with him.
How can I get food to a kingdom that does not have any fertile land etc in it's area?
You always have one fertile tile you start with, and you get two more after you research the second level of the 'resource' path in the adventuring tree. You can further increase the amount of food by building 'irrigation' improvement in a city that has food resource near it, by sending caravans from other cities into the city that has food resources(the longer the route, the bigger th

Monster killing gives a lot of money, but it is balanced(IMO) by the amount of gold late game troops require. For instance, recruiting a dragon costs 2000 gildar. A full squad of 12 of those costs 24000 gildar. Upkeep of that squad would cost 600 gildar/turn, i think(estimate based on the peasant who costs 12g to build and has 0.3 upkeep, 1/40 of the original cost). If you are killing trolls for sport, i think you are in a stage where the game assumes your armies cost you a fo
