I don't think you'll get any new, useful sales out of it. On the other hand, developing truly extensive packs that up the number of spells, or add different terrains, or more quests, or more champions, or buildings, or any combination of the above: these would capitalize on FE's success record.

Yet somehow, whenever an "official" thread is started to discuss AI, diplomatic AI involving wars, trade, the interface, etc, are never the subject.
I'm working on the diplomacy features for 1.5 right now. It's getting the biggest revamp since the original release of Fallen Enchantress.
Good. It's been my single gretest complaint for months. Not that individual issues haven't been important, but this haws been the gretest area of concentration that has noticeably lagged behind GC II and needed a lot of loving care.

Democracy 3 is a pretty tough little simulation mod on running a country through many, many, many decisions. Very much a sandbox game, and definitely not for everybody, but give it a look. I've purchased both its predecessor and this latest release, and find them enjoyable and suitably difficult.

Reply to Dominions 4?? in PC Gaming

From what I can tell, it appears they plan to rectify the issue of the manual almost instantly going out of date (as it did with Dominions 3) but keeping it strictly a downloadable document. Normally I'd greet something like this with cynicism--sure you don't want to give us a printed manual, because you want to save us from ourselves--but in this case, it makes sense. D3 went through a seemingly endless series of changes over the years, and the developers' are getting lots

Except that it's been demonstrated repeatedly the monsters *do* attack AI cities and troops. Can't speak to the sorcerer's motivations (where was he when the new city appeared? very nearby, or had he moved onto attack something else?), but dragons have the usual anyone-of-several-possible-behaviors pattern that can lead to a mix of nesting, attacking, standing still and looking as dumb as a rock, etc, randomly chosen per turn. I'm not happy with it, but there it is. <b

Nothing will happen to a powered down HD....as long as you don't drop it....burn it....or just plain lose it...
Thanks! That's what I needed to know.

I'll repeat what I wrote months ago: this should be optional. As in, if you want to allow it, fine. If you don't want to allow it, there should be a checkmark to turn it off. Afraid I don't see the downside of offering this choice to players. I'm probably missing something big, but there it is.

If you increase the difficulty level of an AI opponent, the monsters will attack it. Same as with human players. It always appears as though the AI is being spared--but I've placed stacks at AI borders and watched AI cities get munched into concrete rubble by monsters.

So far, it looks good. I'm guessing not all skills are in, but there are some nice twists to magic for greater variety. The team seem to have their heads screwed on straight, which is more than I can say about some other RPGs that have appeared that were largely the old game reissued with less new content by far than modders had available before. And I'm not going to mention Baldur's Gate. No sir!

One of my magazine editors tries every two-to-three months to get me to review peripherals and software for Win8. I tell him, no. He's already let slip that no other reviewers on staff want to install the OS, and I'm solidly among them. I may be aging, and hardly gracefully, but I'm not senescent, yet. EDIT: If this offends any Win8 users, just figure I don't understand all the joy, colors, and sweetness that it has, because I'

I've got a very large collection of 50's and 60's jazz (and other stuff, too) on LP that's been slowly transferred to digital media. Thing is, I want to save it as such on an external drive, while pulling things off as-needed onto MP3 chips for my wife and I to hear in the car or at work. The latter bit's of course no problem. But there's plenty of crap on the Web, as we all know. And when I read that storing stuff on an external drive that's

And Space Rangers doesn't begin to approach the mixed adventure/RPG/strategy/arcade concept that is Star Control II.
I usually "CTR+K" neutral/enemy pioneers in my lands. It's too annoying to chase them down.
Yep, as do I. I don't think you can call a game rule a success when people cheat to kill it regularly. Not that a lot of us do that, but I can't think of any significant group of folks who regard letting neutrals just sneak back in whenever they feel like it without any notice as a Really Good Idea.

SC II was one of the great games, and a genre breaker. It combined aspects of RPG, adventure (inventory-getting), strategy, and arcade combat, with a lot of customization and some great humor. Too bad the company that acquired the rights for SC III felt they didn't want the Toys for Bob folks doing that game, and gave it instead to a team that had produced several mediocre titles. If Stardock does an SC IV, hopefully they'll bring in the TfB folks--or at least,
I am trying to approach the design of master of magic in a different way (see my other thread) and trying to see if I could add more sandbox element to it. One of the solution so far is to have either an objectiveless game, or make the objectives completable only by the player. The AI cannot win the game. Most of the AI will be more event based rather than strategy based which could simplify the development.
</

But there were plenty of others, even earlier, such as Hidden Agenda. I wouldn't call Mo

-1. As ever so many gamers and Big Industry CEOs point out, singleplayer is dead. And they're dead set on making and playing only multiplayer games. In that case, there are tons of them that can be played out there. Leave this really nice singleplayer game and its balance alone for those of us who haven't seen the light.
