Knowledge, simply because it makes everything else quicker to get. I usually go up Civics through Administration, Trading, and Agriculture, then switch to Magic (if I'm running Pariden) or Military (everybody else) for a bit. Then it's back to Civics. You can't really succeed by sticking with only one tree. You have to mix and match, according to a strategy tailored for your race and leader.

You've tried extracting several times from the same download, if I follow you. Try deleting that archive, and download again. I've had no problems with installation, and judging from all the comments up here, neither have a lot of other folks.

At the very least, I wouldn't mind an INI file line that lets you choose whether to build the top building, or bring up city details with a double click. Agreed that it should default to the latter.

Too bad. I was hoping for a giant standing bear on the diplomatic screen, with multiple choices along the lines of: Grr, grr, grr, trade. Grr, grr, grr, treaties. Grr, grr, grr, WAR!! ...etc.

Because if you're running an assassin, you wouldn't want to spend 8 traits/levels in order to learn (to use my example from earlier) Fire 4 and Earth 4. Casting Inspiration on a city cut your research by half? I've been using it in the latest beta, and without fail it's increased research. Of course, if you have a lot of unrest, it won't increase things much. But cutting research?

That would definitely help, but I'd like to see some ability to select diverse defenders that actually did the job. Consider: you make a city improvement, and it works. (Or will, once the bugs are gone.) You've built it, that's it. City defenders? You build them, you spend even more time on one than on your buildings, and they still fall like a stack of cards. Unless of course I'm doing something wrong, but I've been playing the betas fo

CTRL+N. I don't see this randomness changing, as the differences provide a brought variety of challenges. (So do the chances to get a beginning spot near some Wildlands, or almost at the doorstep of another player.) I like it, as I do a similar range of very good to very bad spots in Civ IV, but I certainly wouldn't mind seeing an option to guarantee a certain level of starting place for those who want that.
