Can I say Final fantasy tactics? It was strategic, and turn based.
Pushing it, really. :) The battles in nearly every RPG, past and present, are strategic. I really loved the battles in The Magic Candle, and the AI was great, but it was a diehard old style RPG. The only RPGs where battles weren't strategic, such as Arcanum, had really terrible combat systems, in my opinion. [quo

SMAC - Alpha Centauri - I love the idea of a having a story in my Civ game, I don't know why nobody else has pulled it off, I'm hoping FH will. SP - Steel Panthers - Tactical tank battles, what's not to like, I think they peaked at II though. FF - Freedom Force - Superheros, what's not to like? It's aged pretty well.<br /

Apparently they were able to play the game offline for nineteen minutes with no discernible loss of gameplay or performance. Some of the user comments under the piece suggest that claims that a great many essential calculations are handled server-side may not be entirely truthful, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to support that assertion personally. Honorable mentions to: Romance of the Three Kingdoms
You are a man of taste. :D I'd add Bandit Kings of Ancient China and King of Dragon Pass to the honorable mentions category. And Master of Mana, the successor to Fall From Heaven II, with far improved AI.
what if instead of being ejected, you had x turns to leave, or the faction immediately declares war on you?
Not a bad idea. I also wouldn't mind seeing any trespass on another player's land being sellable:so-many-turns' access for so-much gold, or a unit, or a spell, or some combination. With a barrier otherwise, unless yo untended to declare war.

It's a long-standing issue. I've had stacks get ejected into one-tile areas where they were surrounded by an opponent's territory. Best advice? Only do that kind of thing while having a mage present who can cast Cloud Walk. :\
