I agree, it makes no sense. But this led to a "heated" debate once already, so I'll just shut up early this time. [e digicons]O:)[/e]

Well it's like paying a bit in advance really. I'm not playing the game right now, it really is unfinished. On the other hand, Frogboy promised a lot of free stuff to those "who sticked", so buying it now should be the smart move anyway. To give you an idea of how much work there is to do, the game doesn't even have a random map generator yet... and we're talking about a game that should have its strong point precisely in the sandbo
Great pal, good luck! Still... wouldn't it be better if you joined forces with other modders who have the same goal, like Raledon? :) Check here: https://forums.elementalgame.com/394106 And I believe I've seen even more in this forum.
The thing is MoM was full of so many great ideas that you'd be hard press to find any fantasy strategy game that doesn't borrow elements from it. The problem with pretty much all others when comparing it to MoM is that they choose to simplify curtain aspects of the game and develop/improve upon others. And sadly this is why so many people long for a true, spiritual or otherwise, sequal to the series. Because thus far every game has
Granted, I was less jaded and more enthusiastic when I played MoM, and sometimes I do wonder if at nearly forty it takes more to excite me than it once did. But then I bump into games that make me feel exactly like I did back in the 80s and early 90s when I encountered and played classics like MoM. Just last year, I anticipated Torchlight like a ten year old waiting for Santa, and then I stayed up numerous nights playing until the bi
[e digicons]k1[/e] Karma to you, Sir. I'll be checking on this regularly, that's for sure [e digicons][/e]
Yep, right now the techs are just too few. Actually, too linear . As you go down what's basically a chain of techs, it's no wonder randomness fails to factor in.

They're working on it, issues are known by now etc. etc. :) I think new suggestions should come after version 1.1 at this point.
To me, the "greatest bug of all" is the broken gameplay (I "can't" play the game if I don't want to), so I could definitely do without these intermediate releases if it meant a quicker timetable for version 1.1. [e digicons][/e] But yes, I can understand if other people want general fixes first. I'll just wait patiently [e digicons]O:)[/e]
I'm usually not very fond of mods because modders tend to go separate ways, not everyone of them has the same level of skill, and you can never get an "organic" feel when putting the original game + a couple of mods together. But I really have to say, what I've seen in this forum the past few days is nothing short of amazing. If Elemental modders can keep a stronger "unity" than the average modding communities do, the results may be fantastic [e digicons][/e]
No excitement at new discoveries or exploring the fog-of-war. That's what it's lacking for me, the casual gamer who would play it (like I do Civ4) years later. Every faction I run into feels pretty much exactly the same. I want immersion, surprise, excitement at new things, and I'm not getting that now. I'm actually quite easy to please ( ) and I'm quite surprised at how quickly I went from fanboi-ish defense of the game to p
In all fairness, I joined the forum a month before release, and I eventually pre-ordered the game (too late to get in the beta anyway). I did witness A LOT of worried comments posted by beta testers. The usual answer was that they couldn't judge since they didn't have the full game. Which was weird. What's clear at this point is that NOBODY apparently ever played even once with the full game, because if anyone had, issues as basic as those with the AI would have screa

You had to purposely force yourself not to game the game a lot of the times with it as well. Or have you forgotten that?
Nobody denies that. Yet the game was so funny that everyone accepted those issues and played the hell out of it anyway. 16 years later the memory o
Quoting edpfister, reply 24 The elemental spell books (earth, air, fire, water) will get moved out of character creation and into the tech tree so that players can determine what spell books they want. This sounds not so great... I can already determine which spell books I want. The problem is that there is little to no trade off for picking them and not enough difference between the books. Moving the spell books into the tech tree
Well even a "mixed" approach, without rewriting everything, could do wonders... for instance: Let some heroes and lairs remain "resercheable", but have some heroes approach you on the basis of your expansion, influence, might and so on, and have a good part of the dungeons be there from the start randomize the level of the stuff you uncover by "research" reword things a little in any case and of
To continue to return back to the same point without considering the possibilites that have been posted, or using your own imagination to fill in the gaps, is coming very close to trolling. c
We're debating opinions, so if you can flag me as a "troll" for not agreeing with you, I have just as much right to flag you as a "fanboy". I'm not a troll, I look forward to enjoy an improved version of the game.
GoG's version includes the DosBox package already set up for MoM. Anyway I read some troubleshooting: disabling the antivirus might be the solution. Tried starting a game, and for the first time I could get as far as to move an unit. So, I'll try playing tomorrow I guess, too sleepy now :)
[e digicons]:([/e] Well no luck there either. MoM crashes all the time, even with the GoG installer. Completely unplayable. Now, at 23,30 hours I can either go to sleep or start ANOTHER quest to get a game I just purchased in proper shape. No luck this month, it seems. No matter how much I spend, 60$ or 6$, same result: go find another game. Or maybe another hobby. Or buy a console. Sorry for the rant... it'll pass [e digicons]:\[/e]
Thanx again for the suggestions. I've just re-purchased Master of Magic at GoG (really, 6$ and a windows installer... I was never able to have it run properly anyway). I will surely check Heroes of Might & Magic the next weekend :) Sure enough I'll have something to do while I wait for Elemental to "grow" a little.
@ Paradoxical: thanx for my first karma point [e digicons][/e] I appreciate it.
I think you are missing my point. The scholars toiling away in the 'Tech Labs' (Mind you, I think thats a bad name for them) don't 'unearth' anything. They re-discover the location and then pass that knowledge in to you the Soveriegn incarnate. At that point it appears on the map.
I remember having a list of "wish we could have done THAT" items for GC2, but, despite fearing the worst, the game got great reviews and multiple editors choice awards. I had a similar list with Elemental, but things are turning out QUITE differently Many lessons to be lear
Thanx folks! I'll check Heroes out then, as soon as I have some time :)
I feel the need to elaborate, as the more I think about it, the more I realize that's possibly the biggest issue I have with the game at this point. It's where the sense of detachment comes from. I can't relate with the game with this technology tree. Bugs can be fixed, spells can be added, a map "randomizator" should be in works... sometime. But how to address <span style="text-decoration: under
Notable Locations “Elemental's system of having Notable Locations and NPC heroes materialize on the map when you research some completely abstract tech is just sort of weird and unthematic. Getting a new level in Notable Locations or Heroes is sort of like putting on the glasses from They Live. Suddenly, powerful heroes everywhere! Or, as in Tom's Figit post, skyscraper-sized haunted castles right next to your capital. An
