Finally, a nice post. Let's postpone legitimate critics/suggestions to a later time, when we'll have familiarized with the game and said critics won't be lost in the sea of the day-1 craziness.

I remember tales from CIV players about starting on 1-square islands... I take it the possibility of getting utterly unplayable maps is accepted when weighed against the importance of randomness and replayability. The formula has worked well so far.
You can cross mountains and bridges, yes. Plus there's also spells for raising and lowering the land so you can even make a mountain disappear if you need to. I think I'll be deleting the "seeds" as well (though I'll save them in another folder). I'd say Stardock will fix this issue given enough time. If there's one thing they know it's Strategy Games and any Strategy Gamer knows how incredibly important it is to have random
I do believe that Stardock will fix and improve significantly in the nearest months, but we are talking about MONTHS people, not days. So we need some patience here, and feedback, honest feedback. This is crucial for them at this point. Because to catch all those little things, and balance the game is HUGE AND LENGTHY process. So, beta testers, just treat the game as beta 6 (this is what really it is, judging by the game), rol
Downloading now, a day earlier. Great guys, thanx for the work. I won't be playing much alas since I'm back to work myself these days. Means I'll have comparatively more time to appreciate all the future developments/improvements :)
It's perfectly fine if we have to pay (both user-side, for the expansion, AND in game for the units I mean :D). I'm just saying that at some point they really have to be in, imho.
Judging from what I've seen so far there are mainly a couple of things that I find less than "excellent!!!" or "awesome!!!" I agree with the point raised by many about the fonts. They are too generic and detract a little from the overall feel of the setting. I mean a game is all about immersion, and Elemental scores very nice points in that department by having unique graphics that help sucking you away (even from the usual feel of other games!!!). It's real
Frankly I too was taking it for granted (the presence of flying units I mean): it never even occurred to me that flying units might not be present. Let's hope the expansion will include them, then :)
As I said before the MP was the best you could have and still is. The SP I never bothered with.. as it was crap.
I understand that the LARGE majority of 4x games enthusiasts is mainly (or only) interested in singleplayer.
I'm Italian and I'll happily play in English. Helps the atmosphere AND my English
Minor issue: I find the repetition of the text "this breakthrough allows us..." a little, uhm, inelegant. Other than that, great stuff! I've got to say, this looks even better than I expected [e digicons][/e] Thanx for taking the time to post it :)
Oh, and even if it's been said over and over, I have to stress this myself: the people behind this company are AWESOME. I really hope this new policy won't hurt Stardock with forms of piracy which would be particularly "vile" in this case. I will certainly do my part and buy even Elemental's expansions as soon as they come out (unless the game completely s*cks, which I don't think it'll be the case [e digicons]^_^[/e] ). I won't even annoy anyone asking for the DVD if
More often than not building a new system for me means actually Saving Money by putting back a $100 or so a month until I have a couple thousand saved up to build a new machine with. That's what us poor people have to do when we want something nice (like a $2500 PC), we Save Up for it.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to routinely buy a 1000$ PC? In the end you get to do exactly the same things, maybe with a little delay. Not to
I have PostePay (an Italian pre-paid card). you just go there with an ID and some money to charge it immediately. Took about 20 minutes, mostly spent in the waiting line...
It's a single player game that has multiplayer.
Which is how I want my games, perfect :) The MP possibility is nice (you never know if the whim hits you) but I could even do without it.
I too vote for the already mentioned Alpha Centauri, a vastly, vastly underrated game. Even though it had some issues with the AI, graphics and a horrible exploit, it was the perfect continuation of the Civilization franchise and it offered something no Civ-style game before and after did: an actual story and thoughtful, challenging ideas. It was deeply philosophical and with its rather grim view on human nature also pretty scary. [/
Baldur's Gate II. Best magic system ever. At least up to some years ago. Especially with the help of some of the finest mods created by the community (like AI-enhancers mods, fixes, etc.)
I really wanted this game but it seems im going to have to pass now Thanks anyways guys.
Uh? You have at least 2 viable options to get it, so it seems to me that you don't "really want it" if you give up so easily. The shipping cost isn't so scary, and Digital Download cost no extra. I had my own issues with it, but ultimately it's about getting the game one way or another.
Well said Kryo. What is best for our customers is what is best for us. Not just saying that either. It's true.
so, what about that special digital edition that was suggested in another thread? I think many of us who went for the simplier digital solution would happily consider an alternate "upgrade" button :)
We were starting to think you guys just packed your things and fled :D Two weeks to go. Well I've made without such a game for years, I can do 2 weeks more. Too bad my vacation will be over by then...
Well, just preorder the box instead of the digital copy. I understand it'll just be sent to you.
Actually, since I've "gone digital" too, I'd like to have such an option. Mostly for the Artbook.
Why are you even on this forum? I watch this forum religiously because everything I've seen of Elemental makes it seem like the perfect game for me. I'm even skipping out on StarCraft II and Civilization V just to get it.
Similar thoughts here. I recently bought a new PC, with my first-ever GPU, as I knew those games were coming out. Then I began to understand how the whole concept of gaming license evolved and so
DOSbox has it all covered. You can play all those old games. If they had the kind of copy protection that you see today, you would *not* be able to play them. And don't worry about the disks...http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/482/Might+and+Magic+IV+and+V+-+World+Of+Xeen.html
Exactly. As I said earlier, an OS can survive for a very long time.
@MasterKroket, the simplest thing you can do, really, is getting a prepaid card. In Italy there are several (I have PostePay, which is handled by the main national mail organization, and operates like a Visa). They are cards that must pre-charged specifically (even with small amounts of money - say, 200 €) and then you can use them on the credit cards circuit. I do have a regular credit card too, but I only use the prepaid one for internet as it's safer (a hacker
