Despite being unwilling to use gamestops Impulse, I wish E:FE the best and still avidly follow it's development. I wish the players and the developers the best of luck with it. I didn't understand why a management team couldn't have been hired for Impulse. Among other options. But then I know nothing of the internal stuff that drove the decision to let go of it. But, if it had to be sold, " why'd it have to be gamestop " (I ask myself). I saw the

I'll be watching for news of this game. And it's from Paradox no less! Though it looks like might be 1 Unit Per Tile. But maybe they can avoid the tactical lockdown of Civ5's carpet of doom. I like the idea of hex maps. But was really hoping for tactical battles ala Age of Wonders. A cross between Civ4 and AoW. With full blown empire building along with all out tactical battle. E:WOM failed. Perhaps Warlock: Master of the Arcane
They're not doing right. They're just making a payoff. Doing right would start with giving all purchasers the free ticket for onlive. Then if they want to pay for an apology, they can give store credit or whatever. They still achieve their aim. And that is to intercede a competitors promotion. Unfortunately the payoff will have some affect in this "me" society that can't look past the end of it's own nose. Still, I hop
As good as Fallen Enchantress looks (and it does look great! Even more so after the UI Dev journal), I'm just not willing to deal with gamestop. This thing with Deus Ex is minor relative to gamestops history. It is a big deal for the precedence it sets. But gamestop does worse. One could have predicted this Deus Ex scenario simply by looking at gamestoppers historical anti-competitive practices. It'll get worse. Already they seek out exclusive digital distribut
How have they switched to E:FE when the game is still 6 months or more from release? And how do you know its a better game when you haven't even played it? E:WOM was hyped up to be all sorts of things it never was. MOM spiritual successor, mod friendly, MP capable, deep, etc etc. E:WOM was nothing like the game Stardock talked it up to be. E:FE might sound great, but so did E:WOM.
Modders never move on, they just get distracted with new projects ;~P AOW:SM still sees new mods. Call to Power 2 is still being worked on. As is Civ2. And many others. E:WOM is young. But it failed spectacularly. Then kept on failing to a humorous degree. So yeah, I think much of the would be modding community has long since moved on. But still some remain, while others lurk looking for reason to return. Stardocks updates seem to worse
Well some people did buy E:WOM with the "recommended specs" in mind. E:FE will require a bit more than E:WOM did. So for that reason, plus Brads consistent hype to see E:WOM completed.... well, I think they gotta keep working on it. But they knida suck. I think the community will do better. So I think their efforts towards E:WOM would be better spent opening the game up to the modders... as has been talked about since pre-release and beyond. Casual pla
Wow! Another fine mod Heavenfall! I didn't think E:WOMs limited modding would see such innovation. Nice job! I keep wanting to forget this mess, but then even with such poor mod support, people are still able to tweak some interest into the game. Thank you. I keep wanting to forget this whole mess and put behind me as a lesson painfully learned; but dammit. the prerelease E:WOM sounded like such a perfect game for me. It's hard to let go
FE will be available, at the very least, via Impulse. If Stardock makes its own direct system, it'll be something more like Get.Live.com where it's just a quickie manager.
Thanks for putting this to rest.
The future of digital distribution on games belongs to Steam and Gamestop as far as we're concerned.
Surprising. &nb
The absolute last thing I want is yet another download service for one game. Stardock has already done that TWICE. Third time and I'm out. Besides, FE is still under the Impulse exclusive window. Hopefully anything about that is just put on Steam/D2D/Gamersgate/etc.
What would be the problem with an additional DD service? You'd still have your option to continue using Impulse. And next April you can add
One last thing, I do take the Orwellian message to heart. As a matter of fact, I think systems which foster social interaction are a very very good thing. Google+ appears to be free from some of the Orwellian pitfalls that FaceBook suffers. Time will tell. At the very least it facilitates communication between select groups. Communication is big brothers bane. As evidenced by the amount of energy governments spend trying to limit it.
Alright Jafo, If you've read my posts with intent, then we we've reached the end of this, for I have yours. I don't feel like a slave when telling friends about the function of Gmail. I don't feel like a sheep when I seek what users have to say about Google+. In fact I feel pretty well free minded to have unplugged from the ad network to instead seek out what real users have to say. People who invest their time to pass on invites, while receiving <span
I can't help but follow this project. I'm glad your still keeping with it. I think what you do is a rarity. For the meantime, I sincerely wish I could go back to 1.09e ;~p What is the status on in-house distribution for this and other Stardock products? I've checked out gamestops updated TOS and Privacy Policy. But they are unacceptable. You've talked multiple times after selling Impulse, of making your own
I was gonna drop this as a difference of opinion discussed adequately. But my last two days have seen a remarkable amount of real world relevance to this topic...
WhiteElk you are wrong, plain and simple. The advertising/distribution/marketing IS a Pyramid 'scheme' process as it's a mathematical progression. I can't help it if you are lost in semantics for whatever reason but so be it.
It's
There is no promised payment Jafo. There are no kickbacks of any kind. Nothing is gained or promised in the giving away of invites. pyramid schemes are illegal because late investors WILL lose. It is guaranteed to fail. Earnings are based on recruitment. Recruitment will eventually end. For Google+ to be identified as a pyramid or ponzi scheme, users would have to be at risk of losing their accounts when recruitment efforts fail to
It's not the distribution chain that ultimately defines a pyramid scheme. It is the remuneration. In the case of these invites, every gifter would be getting something from the giftee and every giftee thereafter. That would be a pyramid scheme. Everyone on down the line pays all those before them. Google+ and Gmail invites have nothing to do with remuneration. It's just passing on invitations. I've seen nightclub events promoted
It's the same 'viral advertising' Google has always used....a 'Pyramid sales' system which, if money changed hands would simply be outlawed/prohibited 'world-wide'.
You've said this before. It is not true. Even without investment of money, this viral marketing scheme does not fit a pyramid scheme. Nothing in the distribution of invites affects the givers, or those who gave before them. The topic of PC Gaming being in decline (or not) is all over the net. Has been for years, and continues to be. Talked about by developers and publishers. Debated by gamers and reported by writers. You can even find references in popular entertainment media. It's on the minds of many. In the past I've been doubtful despite reading reports of increased digital sales not matching the decreased retail sales. But for ME, PC Gaming has recentl
I never said Civ5 didn't work offline. Though everytime I check the steam forums, I find threads where new people bring up the now old "I set offline mode but it doesn't stick" problem. Forget steam dude. Think E:WOM. Think Civ4 at release. Think Civ3 when Atari sold to 2k. Think Dragon Age. Think a whole lot of games turned to cash cow crap. Or studios that just fumble like Stardock did. Or fucked up publishers li
This was a game I was near assured to get. But Diablo III's online restriction is even worse than Civ5 and steam. It's all going to shit! After passing on Civ5 I thought E:WOM would fill the bill. But that's not working out. Then I thought... finally Diablo III's coming out. Based on the first 2 I figured the new one would be a good bet. But they went and monetized it to death. For me anyway. Must be online to play the AI!?
Civ3 could have been designed like Civ4. Save for the graphics priority. Civ3 could have had all the nice gameplay additions that Civ4 brought. The only game design feature to note here, is the focus on graphics that Civ4 brought. Then Civ5 came along and they spent millions on the voice acting and animations of leaderheads. I mean come on! A sandbox game meant for replayabilty!?! That crap is only cool a couple times around. Then it becomes spa
At the same time, graphics are pretty much a requirement. Ugly games don't sell outside of a certain niche.
Brad said, and I tend to agree, that 4x TBS games are a niche. I've read this elsewhere as well (and from industry participants). But then why are games like E:WOM, and Civ4+5 willing to give up gameplay depth over graphic pretties? This niche is all about gameplay depth. The point of play is to mana

So even 2D with "a dynamically generated mesh" seems to be pushing the line. But at least SM maintains content. I think SM is cluttered. But I enjoy the depth of the game. [quote who="Tridus
