As reply #7 says, a bit stronger is better than too weak. I would recommend you just lower your world difficulty a bit and see if that helps you.

Just to expand on this, none of the crashes were caused when I just get into the game. It's always after many turns, I go to the menu and reload a quicksave, then it might crash.

Ok, here's the save game. The crashes didn't come all the time (twice out of how many times I loaded), so I'm not sure what the save game will show you. http://www.mediafire.com/?4jcr3abgypy10bv

These are the issues I have come across so far in the beta patch: 1. When you're making your character, the cost of items you can equip on him on the character creation screen don't make sense; the higher damage items cost less than the lower damage ones. 2. Meditative talent description doesn't fit into the box it's allowed; consider making these descriptions a hover-popup box, so you can make them any size you want. 3. Got a message that a gold deposit is within my z

I hope that this extra day gives Brad some more time to get those AI improvements implemented in the 1.1 beta. I can't wait to get my hands on smarter AI players. Is this something we can look forward to, Brad? Or will this come out later in a beta patch?

I have to admit that that's a huge list of changes, much more than I was expecting. For the time it has taken to do this patch, I'm impressed with the amount of bugs fixed and features tweaked. It's still not going to be perfect, by any means, of course (there's a bunch of changes that didn't make it in the patch that NEED to be fixed, but I'm assuming those will be worked on subsequently), but it's a big step in the right direction. I can't wait to play test it though, and find out whether t

The threaded AI sounds great, it should decrease the thinking time of the computer. But I'm interested to know how the actual AI is improving in the 1.1 patch. Have there been any major changes to the AI? Have any player strategies been implemented (I remember people uploading their saves so you could see how they were winning)? In general, how much smarter is the AI in this patch over the previous one (i.e. will I get my butt kicked a lot faster on harder difficulties, or is that coming late

I'm surprised this didn't occur to me before, but here's what I think. Why are they throwing a contest now when people have posted before about spells and such? I'm sure there's many reasons, but one is because of this : By uploading Content, you give permission to the Sponsor to use the Content via online means or retail as seen fit by the Sponsor. Contestant shall have no rights to the content once submitted. This gives them

This is a plea to Derek and the other members of the dev. team. It's been said above that there's been a lot of spell ideas on the forums already, but whatever, we'll assume this will be the OFFICIAL way of getting new spells in the game. My hope is this: if you see a lot of spells in this contest, do NOT dismiss them if they do not win. Please do what you can to make the spells in the game more fun to use, because (as I've said my times before) a game called "War of Magic" should have fun sp
Quoting Rune_74, reply 78 Maybe you are a bit slow in how things work, the engine took more time to develop and work things out, it is still evolving. This left less time to work on areas they wanted to adress...this should be self evident. I guess not. the community is being asked for suggestions and therefore are quite justified to ask about limitations of the current engine. in particular that would be valu
I spent yesterday helping to make the spells more exciting, Master of Magic is the inspiration here, not FfH.
Good man. Keep it up on those spells, and please don't stop. I don't have to tell you, and Stardock, that a game called "War of Magic" should make me have fun casting any of the spells. Right now ... not so much :) Good to hear that Master of Magic is the inspiration, and hopefully t

I disagree with the op. The constant stream of patches is what has prevented me from completing more than 4 or 5 matches in the game. Don't misunderstand, I appreciate bug fixes and patches like everyone else, but this isn't a shooter or a quick 10 minute game, these are matches that take many hours to finish. Every patch pretty much forces you to start a new game, create a new sovereign, etc. And then you run into bugs and problems that prevent you from enjoying or completing your

This is a tentative list; there's a lot of stuff I like about the game, but since I haven't played it for a few weeks now, I can't remember everything. And I know some of this will sound mean, but it's not meant to be. I wouldn't be here trying to help if I didn't care. I like the resources in the game, and I think they work fine for the most part, but I think this can be improved on. I think it would be better if there's more resources, even if they're weaker, so the world map d
Balance, schmalance. From the gitgo, Elemental was supposed to be first and foremost a single-player game with 'deliberately unbalancing' magic as a big part of late game experiences. This balance thing is for folks who favor multi-player and/or want to 'win' versus an AI instead of just wanting AIs to make the Nth game you play seem new and interesting. Balance is not a discrete and tangible element that one

Looks good, thanks for the heads up. Anything else big coming in 1.09 we should know about? And by this week do you mean the patch is coming tomorrow, friday, weekend?

I thought I read a forum post that said 1.1 is coming in October some time, and the first micro-expansion is coming around Nov-Dec.

I don't see myself playing multiplayer for this game, because I don't have the time for long sessions of this game at a time. Having said that, a play by email scenario might be different, because you just have to do your turn and that's it, no waiting for the other guys. However, I believe they have said that they are NOT adding play by email. Unfortunate, because it seems like a lot of people enjoy this play style. But I do agree with your argument and your logic is sou

I'm a bit disappointed as well, but what about this?
The game not only will feature random map generation but our current internal build does feature random map generation. Making a big change like this means a lot of other gameplay changes; I just hope you guys have thought it all through. I myself just want a better system (or should I say, I just want a system) where I won't be waiting for 1 mana coming back every turn, which is always holding me back from casting anything. So, makes shards provide more mana, and put more shards on the map! They're too rare as it is. If you want to balance this, then MoM did a perfect thing: put a stack of relatively
So, they still think to solve problems by auto-spawning resources (shard) near your starting location? Bad. Really bad. I hope they intend to use this as a temporary workaround.
A temporary workaround ... for what? I'm hearing this a lot, people hoping that certain ideas are only a workaround for a real solution. When there's these many "workaround ideas" in the mix, it makes me think something's actually wrong with the whole theory
