The goal of this review is to talk about the game design, no comment will be done about the graphics and the music. I tried to structure the review to make sure you can see easily the content with a glance. I'll also number them for easier reference by people who replies. The review has been made with version 1.07 which does not really matter right now because my review focus more on game design (rules) which will not change
impulse:reactor?
What is that? Sorry for the basic questions, I am new to impulse.
It seem to get back to normal if I go in the menu, uncheck and check the cloth map only option and get back in the game.
I'll try it this morning.
2) I seriously doubt distribution of our code will be over impulse. Like, no way ever.
So it will be possible to mod the rules but they won't be distributable via impulse?
It would be hilarious if we could just choose from 1DN, X+YDN and whatever that interesting system Larienna came up with at the new game screen. Maybe even agree before a multiplayer game. If we could choose via impulse things would just be a little too crazy I think
In the journal, frogboy leaved some comments and example about the modding that could be done in elemental. According to the GUI, You can download new maps, tiles and quest. But originally, they said that elemental would have much more modding capabilities and that you would be able to change the rules throught XML editing or Python coding. Now maybe this feature is not implemented yet in the interface or maybe these mods will not be available via impulse. Players will have to
I happen to have a watch on my wrist. And on the wall. And on the second monitor. In my case, I don't have wall clock, wrist watch or cell phone. So there is no way to tell the time in my living room. Else, when I am using my netbook, I find it annoying to alt-tab into windows just to check the time. So displaying the time in a corner of the gui could help (up right corner could be good)
It does not happen often, but it's scary when it does. I am using the cloth map only option. Sometimes after exiting a screen, it display the full graphics instead of the cloth map. If I check the menu, the cloth map option is still active. Last time, it happened when I saveed my game while using the menu. When the game was saved, it switched back to the game in full graphics instead of cloth map.
It seems that the game's MP3 are in separate files because the music is being layered over each other. Is there a way to fusion back the music together in a single MP3 file?
It would be interesting to see the actual real world time in the gui of the game. To know when it's time to go to bed.
Right now, tactical battles makes the game crash. I am currently playing with the cloth map and I was wondering if they could also use the cloth map for tactical battles too. They could give the option either to use animated characters on cloth map or un-animated pawns on cloth map.
I am running Elemental on a MiniHP netbook on a TV screen. The game always crash when I enter the world map or a tactical battle. When you start the game, on enter tactical battle, there is some white fog that should fade away. I think this is the effect that makes the game crash. What I see is my characters, some white fog all over the place, then a black screen, then a crash. But, If I start the game on a cloth map and then switch to the 3d engine in the middle of the game,
Unless my memory is bad, they said that Elemental was going to support netbook resolution like 1024x576. But when I run the program, they say that the minimum resolution is 1024x768. Will there be support eventually for netbook resolutions?
I have just bought an Elemental DVD. I have 2 computers, A net book and a regular desktop computer. I only have an external CD-ROM drive for the net book (no DVD), but there is a DVD drive in the computer. So I was wondering if it could be possible to install the game on the net book without having a DVD drive. I was thinking of maybe copying the files from the DVD and transfer them on the network. Since there is no copy protection, it should work. I know that I can do
I used in some of my design a 3 variable system called X ( dY + Z ) The advantage of such system is that there are 3 different ways to influence the die roll. So you can isolate the bonus source. For example, you could say that X= the strength of the unit according to it's equipment Y= The experience level of the unit Z= Magical bonus the unit can get. This way you also do not have conflict between bonuses and the same bonus to th
After playing Galciv, civ IV and Civ Rev, After watch many videos, I was expecting the game to be boring or not very strategic, but I was also expecting the game to be stable and playable without a single update. Think about those how don't have the internet. That would have been acceptable for me because I know that strategy video game are currently at a much lower level than strategy board game. But I would still have accepted this flaw because people would have modified the ga
Makes me long for the days of DOS. :) DOS is Awesome, Best OS I have ever used ever. It's simple, clear and it does not work while you turn you back. (I hate when my hard drive spin continuously and I am doing nothing with the computer. Yes I deactivated indexing). I heard that they were making a 32 bit version of DOS that would remove the 1 MEG memory restriction and allow accessing various file system like fat 32, but I don't think video game developpers
I want to play a downloadable Demo, and then buy a physical copy. In fairness though, it should also be noted that our 'full version' can be played for up to 24 hours before purchasing It means that I could currently download the full version on impulse without paying and try it for 24 hours. The only problem is that I need to download the whole game, so it would probably cost more bandwidth than when the demo will be ready since the demo will not
Is there spells that affects the whole world like world enchantment or effects. Some example from MOM: Death Wish, Great Unsummoning, Armaggedon, Meteor Storm, Nature's cure, Wind Mastery, etc.
From what I have seen in the previews, I doubt that the spell are really powerful. It seems to look more like the spells in age of wonders, some spell are useful only in very specific situation or Spell gives you a minor bonus with a maintenance cost too high. I don't know why, it seems in any video game, tabletop RPG and board game, the designer are scared to place powerful spells in the game. They fear it will unbalance the game. If this is the case for elemental, I will des
Right now, it feels more like an RPG than an Epic civilisation building game. Maybe it is because we are at the beginning of the game.
Ultima IV At least brad seems to like this game. I would add better tactical battle (a la final fantasy tactic) because in the original game, melee weapons were useless since you could only move 1 square at a time.
Wizardry Old or new stories, don't care. Right now, only Japan gets new wizardry releases.
Question: Did you ever tried an AI only games and see the results? Is there somebody that wins in the end?
As long that the loading is done once before playing that it does not require as much memory than the XML file that there is a loading bar to show the progress and that it is possible for modders or some aspect of the game to include or exclude stuff I don't think it should be a problem because I could actually do other things while it load. Idea: You could put a small minigame on the loading screen. Having a te
