I was not thinking to add it dynamically in the game. It would be more a tool for modders who could generate randomly object they do not wish to spend time developing.

By looking at the goodie hut example, I am not sure if there is a lot of randomness in the reward that the hut gives you. Still, there are a lot of things, which requires XML editing, which are simple permutation of information. Of course, you could personalize each quest, each goodie hut, etc. But what if you need a large amount of information fast. One solution would be to have a small program that randomly generate XML stuff. Or even generate all the possible combination. F
I tried it, but it works bad on this site. All the buttons at the top of the forum get's hidden by the background color. There is also no way to customize a color. So I get stuck with the color palette proposed by the software.
For those who have not played the beta, will there be a demo to download and test?
In the journal, there is some information right now on how to mod stuff. It is irrevelant to me right now since I do not have the demo. But I was wondering if all the information could be archived at the same place for further reference. Which leads me to the idea that there should be a website dedicated to elemental modding where you could find guides, tutorial, files and a list of Mods with descriptions which are in the Database.
I am partially color blind and I find the new color scheme very hard to read. Is there a way to switch back to the old color scheme?
According to the journal, the game should be released on August 24th. But after reading this from the journal Casters should not get to cast spells more than 1 per turn. The UI makes me cry. Clickity click click click. What’s going on? Goodie huts are boooring. The spells are booooring. Tactical combat is boooring. The spell books are confusing and make me feel violated and I’ve already consulted my
I made some tests lately with age of wonders 2 and the JoyToKey emulator. It seem to run pretty OK. It's not the best thing possible but it is playable. I think the solution is to have the most shortcut key possible so that I could map any button to any key. Here is an example of situation that would require additional short cut keys. If there is a dialog box with a yes/no question, it could be interesting to shortcut Y and N key for yes no. The reason why is that I ca
I don't understand - why can't you use a regular optical mouse? If I am sitting on my couch, I have no table to move the mouse on. I tried using a plate on my legs but it really works bad. So my idea was to use an handheld trackball so that I can let my hand rest on my legs or on the sofa and still be able to use the mouse. Another thing I thought of doing is to use a regular trackball (which might be of better quality) and place it on my
For xp: Control panel > accessibility options > Mouse tab > use mouse keys Yep, maybe that could be useful for playing other games. Still, it would be more optimal to have an interface designed to work with the keyboard/joystick. If would allow to send in commands faster.
I will suggest something crazy that will never happen (like the original poster said). A group of online games where Each game has a world of it's own but players can open gates to warp from a dimention to another (another game). That would be totally crazy an complex to manage especially if your empire is spanning across multiple dimensions.
I intend to play elemental by plugging my netbook in my TV. Everything work great so far: I have the cables and the cooling pad. The only problem so far is the mouse. I looked for handheld trackball. The problem is that there is really few models and they are not available in stores. So I need to order online and cannot test them before buying. I bought recently the fish hand held trackball and it sucks. Most of the time when I spin the ball, there is no reaction at all even if it is
Netbook resolution, at least mine, is 1024x576, or something close. Its very problematic because many applications ask a minimum of 800x600. Which means that the 600 is already busting the 576, so it does not work. For example, to try master of orion 3, I needed to plug it on my TV else it crashed on startup. I don't undertand why you need 2 version of the game. Is it to separate the engine from the game? If this is the case, you intend to design a game in a month? You are pretty
well sometimes you want to stop a war and not make an happy joyfull peace. SO a cease fire seems a good optioon. We are not at war, but we don't love each other.
I could maybe eventually make a french(quebec) translation if there is not too much text to translate. Or I could only translate the important stuff like the interface, commands, unit names. What get's touchy are the events, quests, etc. Since each of these are unique and modders are going to add their own stuff, it is very hard to change the text of all these elements. So if the XML files are very well constructed, yes there could be some translation. But don't expect to have
You do not want to sell a game engine or a do it yourself video game, you want to sell a real video game. Modding should not be used to create a game that does not exist, it should be used to extend the life on the game by adding alternate ways to play. So you need to have a solid working game right at the start. The common gamer will not play mods until he fully understand and enjoy the base game. The average gamer does not want to tweak the game before playing, he wants to buy, install and
Hopefully, the new resource based city development should deal with this. See Brad's 3B video, hopefully will allay all or most of your fears. In fact, the new system is the problem. Because to gain more research or more magical power, you need to control more ressources which means having a larger empire. So my suggestion is according to plan A or B on the original post, Plan A: either there is nothing magical on the land or no magic powerup tha
The point I am going to talk about in this thread has been slightly discussed in other thread. Now that the new economy system has been designed, it seems to have fallen right into the trap that we talked to avoid. All 4x strategy games have the same bug, From my experience I played MOM, CIv, civ rev and MOO and they all have it. Probably that most of the games you have played could be summarised by the algorithm below. - First you explore and expand.</p
One thing I forgot to add, You should include, hidden, in the base game any rejected artwork or other piece of work. The idea is to give modder a larger bank of pictures, tiles and other stuff to play with without having to create these themselves. I would say, even include the sketches, modder might put colors on it. Still, this rejected material should be placed hidden to the user and only available for modding.
In general, You want to make something like the D&D RPG, you sell the people core books and then you can add expansion material to extend the core rules. Modding is OK, as long as it does not hinder the development of the core rules. The core rules cannot be easily modified or extended once the game is released while the modding can be done easily. You should follow a set of guide lines to make sure you do not over mod the game before it's released. - Make sure that
"He was dishonest and the bastard needed shutting down." Most of the time, you don't know what kind of people are working behind a business. It is easier to see in retail stores since they have a contact with the client.
"That's fine. It's your choice how you want to handle your property rights." One of the thing people confuse in copyright is the notion of intellectual property versus the concept of duplication/publication rights. Pirates does not steal intellectual property, they steal duplication rights. ------------------------
There are 2 ways to implement the 1.5: round up or round down. It depends how large you want the radius to be. You could also use both radius: ex: movement is round down and range attack are round up.
If a Pirate downloads a Good Game he'll either like it and probably buy it so they can play multiplayer or they'll tell people it's a Good Game in which case those people will go out and buy it. The Company may or may not have lost one sale to the original pirate who broke the copy protection, but even that act in its-self generates further sales most of the time. it has been proven that this formula 1 pirated copy = 1 copy unsold is not tr
