And I think your habit of giving mines low output is going to make anyone using iron extremely rare (which might be a good thing) ... but certainly never any legions with iron anything will be made. So I guess its just a balance idea, and an idea of personal preference. Only time will tell, I suppose.

I like Demiansky's Well of Life idea. I think this direction is good for using essence to get more out of one particular city. Plus I like the idea to tie this essence expenditure to a building. However, one thing I will argue is that it should still require essence to expand living earth (at least once). There should be a definite choice between using essence to spread the wealth (twice) to get a monopoly of land, or to spend it once to (use the other essence) build a s

Well, perhaps we should reduce all building-based essence outputs by 10x (or 20x), and Sovereign presence in the city repsectively increases essence by 10x or 20x. Although, it is worth noting, that given the current system (assuming you didn't focus on Spell Point buildings) even sitting in one city for 100 turns is only going to give you a couple levels worth of essence (if that). XeronX ... its not anywhere close to a remote possibility that you would be able to outfit a legion, or even a company, of heartblades. Have you considered increasing the proliferation of essence through such methods as suggested here? https://forums.elementalgame.com/382224 This could be either in addition to (also) gaining essence by leveling or the new alternative to gaining essence through levels. I think the one think I would have liked from Civ, is that once I was huge-empire kicking ass and taking names, I would like for the other nations to rally together against me. Just to, ya know, give some challenge to the final battles. Or, for instance, to get some use out of my high-end units (instead of winning before they can arrive at the front-lines)

Yep, I suppose you could say that. Finding the Quest for the Hanzo blade should require a mid-level Adventure tech(lv 7+), and completing the Hanzo quest (final dungeon) should probably require a red-level Adventure tech (that turns yellow at Adventure level 14??) I think that if anyone breaks a diplomatic deal -like declaring war on an ally -or attacking a neutral city while "just passing through" Your cities should get hit with a prestige penalty for 10-20 turns, so that if you keep acting decietful your people will start to migrate away. Eh ... it sounds like more of a gimp than a balanced alternative. I would rather have the Hittori Hanzo blade only buildable in one city at a time, and requiring 20 turns to complete (or 30), rather than to make it weaker. I'd even through in a maximum, like you can only have 5 total or something (although that would take 100 turns of dedicated Hanzo forging). The idea is that each of the specialty items are in themselves rare, with maybe a 20-30% chance of showing up each game, and even harder to find even when they are within a game. As you can see, there are many more types of Heartblades than there would be Dragons on any given map. Even rarer, of course, is the person crazy enough to spend so many resources to hunt down and kill a dragon that isn't threatening their kingdom. There is no difference between the ore or the finished product in Elemental ... in fact, its never finished product until it is reforged as a weapon during Unit training. Well, warmonger, the idea is that the essence would be siphoned directly into the Sovereign. Whether he was in the city or not.
