I think it would be a much better game if quests/monsters spawned over the game so that we never had an empty map and didn't need filler tiles.
Something of this ilk. At least in the empty wastes. -------------- Obviously pre-placed should be the dominant force within the first 50 seasons or so, but after that I think lairs should start spawning where humans are not ;)

Sorry ... I was just playing some Demon's Souls (as a caster class), and the thought just struck me how utterly useless I'd be if I was only armed with a Knife (in addition to my fancy wand). Even so, I always did find it odd to equip units with Daggers, but couldn't place my finger on it until now.
I hardly doubt that someone could use a knife (or dagger) effectively on the open field, where the enemy can see you coming. Maybe a knife (dagger) could be equipped onto a Champion as a "Secondary" weapon, enabling them to do sneak-attacks while in stealth mode ... but other than that I see no real use for Knives in combat. I would consider this much more bothersome than the +6 initiative aspect, to be honest. As I've said in another post, Wakizashi
While we
(I)
are on the subject of daggers ... does anyone else find it incredibly ludicrous to find daggers in the battlefield? I doubt any battlefield blades would be much shorter than 2 feet long unless they are at the end of a very long stick (ie polearm). ShortSwords, Gladius, and Wakisashi make versatile *infighting* weapons ... but Daggers and Tantos are for eating meat, not killing people ;) -> I can see a CHAMPI
tac move penalty was for values going *over* 100 encumbrance. -X% Initiative is an interesting idea, as opposed to -C initiative .... but honestly if we are working from the standard of 20 initiative (and if that initiative rarely goes up) I doubt we will have too many modifiers to initiative other than Encumbrance , so I doubt it will matter, therefore -C initiative should work just as well. The only kink in the system would be something silly like a +6 or +8 initiative dagger I supp
Example of patching done right. Civ IV BTS ... the initial launch patch, or one very soon after at least, is the standard for all digital and hard copy purchases for the game. To get updated to "the here and now" digi copies use a digi patch to get to 3.19, while hard copy patches use a server patch. In this platform ... if there was ever a 3.20 or 4.11 etc that required steam (for new Steam multiplayer), then only those that are intereste
nvm, I see you have it as I would have suggested SeanW (at least according to your system)
I thought that was just the CIA? I thought FBI was supposedly more internal affairs? :p
having only -1 initiative for heavy and -2 initiative for encumbered seems too low. I mean no wonder we have seen initiative penalties on the armor pieces themselves, since weight does hardly nothing. I think for encumberance to be the sole initiative penalty factor ... it should have a max of -10 initiative. What do other people think?
Magnar look AWESOME!!!! :D Like really cool dragon/dinosaur/people. Really like the contrast between the Magnar and their Slaves ;)
Ah, good to know. At least it was the New Zealand police that did the arresting :)
That happened awhile ago ... I believe they (the FBI that is) also captured and detained persons not belonging to the united states? Seems a bit extreme for the "Federal" organization, seeing as that it was a multinational incident.
IMHO, the whole "you're a noob, so you're not qualified to speak to the game" is a cop-out, anyway. If someone said, "I have logged 600 hours on Steam playing Civ V, and I can say with authority that Civ V sucks," then what would people say? How much expertise do people tend to acquire in games they don't like?
They would say something to the effect of "Then why did you spend 600 hours pla
Oh jee, they just had to terminate it without any warning ... [e digicons]:|[/e] and you still trust these people? [e digicons]XD[/e]
MP client change should not equal installation change. period.
Regardless of my feelings toward steam its pretty shady that they would switch a game to the steam version after having sold people the non steam version.
agreed
Thank ye :)
Hmm. So who is going to win this year's election? :)
agreed. "Overlord" might work better here.
Please don't. I think that's a really bad idea. Personally, I would exploit that as a free teleport back to my capital whenever it was about to be attacked. It could also be used as a free teleport all the way back across the map by units exploring far from home. Just too many ways to cheese it, IMO. Why not introduce a stiff fine for repeat (within x turns) offenders instead? From the offending empire'
I'm thinking of making the "kick out" penalty greater -- kicked out units get sent all the way back to their capital. That way, sneaking across someone's territory and getting caught is akin to being deported.
I agree! :)
Hmm. Honestly I think I would prefer if every 10% of encumberance gives -1 initiative. Either that or 0-25% = 0 penalty 26%-40% = -1 initiative 41-50 = -2 initiative 51-60 = -3 initiative 61-70 = -4 71-75 = -5 76 - 80 = -6 81-85 = -7 86-90 = -8 91-95 = -9 96 - 100 = -10 Either one of those I think would be great! :)
Meanwhile, Seraphs would likely look "super human" or "trans-human" being (likely) the most powerful angel type, and also looking similar to divine/divinity. those looking the least human->elemental-esque ... would likely be Thrones, ""of Mercury, and Cherubim. (Possibly Nephilim too) meanwhile Virtues would look Trans-human and Seraphs' would look "super" Trans-human. Then regular (non trait) angels could look like
I would think of angels as very low growth, very powerful ... very good at diplomacy but can get angered really easily too. Some (like the Seraphim) with heavenly fire swords, and great aptitude for fire spells (with which to burninate the enemy). Others, perhaps Cherubim, could have access to spells of Ice and Life. If an army of "all angels" has 2 or more moves, then they can spend one of their moves to "fly" over a blocking mountain or
