It was what they didn't have to do but did anyway thet gave it such a charming 'personality'. I loved the M:TG-esqe snippets when you researched things. 'I don't know but I've been told, Dierdra's got a network node!' 'Likes to press the on-off switch, Dig that crazy Gaian witch!'

I suppose we have to ask ourselves 'what does trading tech mean?' Is tech trading something you whisper to a foriegn diplomat and he says 'of course! It's so simple!' or perhaps you hand them a few diagrams describing how to build a mine? It's abstractly dealt with, certainly, for the sake of simplicity but if it were not, if perhaps you gave them mining tech and it was a physical thing like a caravan with mining engineers, scrolls and materials that had to get to the friendly territory/
With Metropolis I always think Superman and modern, neon-light cities despite it's ancient origins. I'd prefer- 4. Minor/lesser city 5. Major/greater city
Elemental, my dear Magicke. I think it's a Middle-Earth classification type thing.

[quote who="John_Hughes" reply="2" id="2600437"]Morale is cool but it can also be very finicky. How does it work? +/- values per soldier buffed by a Commander? Does it accumulate with battles won, or decline with Battles lost? Does a loss of morale automatically cause a complete retreat of any affected troops, or whole groups of troops? Do 10 single guys in a Stack get a different Morale bonus/value vs a Company of 10 men who all trained together
I assumed there was to be gods (wether they exist or not) unless Elemental is to be an atheist fantasy rts, which would be... interesting. I don't expect a thing like in the pre-empire total war games where religious agents can convert provinces (they were mostly removed in the most recent games and not really to it's detriment) but I would have thought post-cataclysm a return to old faiths and beliefs would be common.

Well...it tells you the relavent exposition but I can't says I was overly keen on it when I saw it a while back. The VO sounds a little am dram and the whole thing especially the 'OR THEIR DOOM' thing which was unintentionally (I think) hilarious. Also the way she says 'magic' sounded like a teacher telling schoolkids a story. A little derivative, maybe? It's old but I rather wish for something of a differant lilt. It is just an intro, though. It sets the mood which can be import

We will have a "proper" intro for War of Magic but this will be a button in the main menu: [Introduction] [New Game] [Load Game] .. But the intro for Elemental itself (i.e. the one that comes after the load screen) is something we're really going back and forth about. There is a considerable camp for doing a 4-bit (16 color) sty

[quote who="CrusaderScott" reply="1" id="2599002"]That was quite an interesting post! I also agree with your sentiments. In fact, when it came for Shelob in Jackson's LotRs, the ultimate design they wound up using was the least scary one IMHO (you can see the range of ideas on the special edition DVD). But I believe that was intentional. I think when it comes to movies and games, directors/devs don't want to make spiders as frightening and repulsive as

Games very rarely get spiders right. Just to get this straight I have no particular affection for Spiders, in fact I tend to run away screaming like a little girl when I see one. However, they make for great enemies in the 4X and RPG genre. Sadly, some devs need to be taken to Arachnology school and assume the more a spider is less like their real life counterparts the more threatening they are, leading to some overly-stylised efforts. I say the spiders encountered in everyday life (and

That would make things too easy for me. I want a game that shrugs it's shoulders and says 'tough break' and leaves me to figure out how to get my hands on the relevant shard through hook or by crook. It would also take away the situation of you having the shard an enemy needed, reducing strategic options. Just my opinion.

No, I’m not referring to the lacklustre 1997 movie (‘Not a sequel an equal’ my ass!) but rather the non-magical/enchanted/corrupted creatures that have counterparts in the Real World. Okay, ‘mundane’ creatures aren’t as sexy or fantastic as vampire uber-bears or flying zombie wolves but they do lend a more down-to-earth (down-to-elemental?) charm that doesn’t throw magical creatures at you from the get go. Don’t get me wrong, I want fant
